Description of the job

A vacancy for a Satellite Validation Engineer has arisen within Airbus Defence & Space in Toulouse.
You will join the Space systems engineering organization, and in particular the Checkout Systems division in charge of delivering ground software and hardware solutions to enable and optimize satellite engineering, verification and operation processes.

The core mission of this deparment (in a transnational context) includes:
¤ Definition and management of technical software/hardware solutions to improve processes within the spacecraft product lifecycle,
¤ Development of engineering, operations, space physics and optimization software and hardware products,
¤ Development of harmonized functional verification infrastructure (FVI) products (numerical/hybrid simulators, test benches, data base systems and central check-out systems) and services (FVI architect),
¤ Execution of space physics analysis services as a support to system engineering disciplines,
¤ Execution of validation campaigns on flight equipment to verify satellite functional chains.

The department is responsible for the resourcing and technical management of the Functional Validation (FV) aspects of Telecommunication and Earth Observation, Navigation and Science (ENS) satellite projects. lt relates to all activities that have been set up to verify and validate a system from a functional point of view.

More specifically, this means integrating avionics equipment, test engineering, writing/checking procedures, producing test procedures, investigating anomalies, analysing test results and delivering test reports.
You would need to understand and handle the avionics tests set up (with real hardware equipment and/or simulators).

The FV activity is based on a consistent use of simulation models and facilities, databases and procedures throughout all project phases, so as to achieve a consistent process for harmonised development and validation of satellite hardware and software, check-out software and check-out equipment.

Process improvement initiatives are being constantly performed to make the FV more efficient and consistent across the various projects.

You will initially join one of the projects as part of the Functional Verification team and, after an initial period of training, will be participating in the preparation, implementation and execution of functional tests on simulated and real-time test benches.
Tests will cover the following sub-systems: Attitude and Orbit Control (AOCS), Data Handling System (DHS), Power, Payload, Failure Detection and Incident Recovery (FDIR) and System Control.

The role will also involve working on support activities, for instance anomaly resolution and management, configuration control and process improvement.

This position will require a security clearance or will require being eligible for clearance by the recognized authorities.

Tasks & accountabilities

Your main tasks and responsibilities will include:

·  Managing the project (technical, cost, schedule, workload) towards Functional Avionics (FV Architect).
·  Managing the team in charge of the activities.
·  Contributing with the team to the following technical activities :

o Establishing the necessary and sufficient configuration to perform the functional validation task,
o Validating the functional chains through end-to-end open-loop tests (AOCS, DHS, etc .),
o Validating the nominal and reconfiguration functions of the sub-assembly through closed-loop tests,
o Developing and debugging Automated Test Procedures (ATP) and scripts, in the dedicated language, working within a specified process and using templates and FV tools against a test specification. This will include liaising with the various project architects and domain specialists,
o Executing the ATPs on the various test benches together with test data analysis and test report compilation. This will include liaising with specialist areas for result data analyses, technical management and Product Assurance (PA).
o lnvestigating anomalies and producing diagnoses - determining root causes (equipment, environment model, software flight, test bed, data bases, procedures, and test specifications),
o Producing test reports.

This role will involve some travel for business purposes (2 times a year in Europe) and as such you must be able to travel accordingly.

This job requires an awareness of any potential compliance risks and a commitment to act with integrity, as the foundation for the Company's success, reputation and sustainable growth.
