Description of the job

A vacancy for a RAMS (Reliabilty, Availability, Maintainability and Safety) Engineer has arisen within Airbus Defence & Space in Toulouse. You will join the Engineering Integration organisation.
The mission is to ensure that Airbus products are developed, designed, produced and supported according to the state-of-art and the relevant dependability standards, and that safety of the vehicle is maintained throughout its whole lifecycle, considering Human Factors and operation.

RAMS Engineering is a key activity supporting all projects as part of the Central Engineering Unit within AIRBUS Defence & Space Satellites.

The RAMS Engineer's principal role is to analyse designs presented by the project, to quantify the results in reliability terms and to recommend improvements to those designs, where possible, to improve the reliability. The reliability aspects may cover System designs at the highest level down to equipment designs at the lowest level.

This position will require a security clearance or will require being eligible for clearance by the recognized authorities.

Tasks & accountabilities

As part of the RAMS Engineering Department, you will be expected to carry out Reliability activities in support to the Project System teams within the various AIRBUS Defence & Space business units. The Reliability and Safety aspects are the principal, but not the sole activities, and you will have particular involvement in the following:

·  Performing all required Project RAMS tasks whether at System, Payload/Platform or Equipment level.
·  Supporting the updating of in-house Plans and procedures related to RAMS (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety).
·  Performing trade-offs and redundancy optimisation studies.

More specifically, you will be required to perform tasks such as:

·  Functional analysis
·  Co-engineering with FDIR architect (Failure Detection Isolation and Recovery)
·  Risk analysis
·  Reliability, availability and maintainability analyses
·  FMECA, HSIA, Fault Tree analyses
·  Safety assessment/hazard analysis
·  The production of Reliability and Safety Critical Item list
·  Support the monitoring and control of equipment or subsystems subcontractors for RAMS aspects

You will be also expected to:

·  Participate in ongoing implementation of trans-national harmonisation of RAMS software tools, methods & processes.
·  Participate in R&D activities.
·  Participate in proposal bids.
·  Manage their own time and budgets in accordance with project and department requirements.

The Reliability Engineering Group is involved in the complete lifecycle of RAMS activities associated with Spacecraft and its constituent parts.

These range from requirements capture, support to system engineering, design optimisation, and the production of the necessary analyses to meet Customer
requirements.

This role will involve frequent travel for business in Europe to Airbus or Suppliers' premises for short period, and as such you must be able to travel accordingly.

Required skills

You will have the following skills and experience:

·  Educated to Engineering degree level (or equivalent).
·  Space engineering related technical disciplines (Electronics, Electrical, Thermal, Mechanical, Operations, Software), with a specific focus on electronics, system engineering.
·  Statistics.
·  Excel, Excel macro (VBA).
·  Knowledge of reliability software tools such as Relex would be an asset.
·  Standards: MIL-HDBK-217F+N2, FIDES, ECSS dependability and safety standards.
·  Good communication & presentation skills (interface with many internal customers/stakeholders, external customers, suppliers, …).
·  Effective at working in a multi-disciplinary team (Project Engineering Teams).
·  Results oriented. Strives for team & individual goals.
·  Autonomous.
·  Proactive approach. Openness and flexibility.
·  Good team spirit.
·  Keen interest in space engineering.
·  Negotiation level of English and French.
