Description of the job

A vacancy for a "R&D Image processing and photogrammetry" has arisen within Airbus Defence & Space in Sophia-Antipolis. The successful applicant will join the Airbus Defence and Space Intelligence R&D portfolio team. He will have the responsibility to develop new image and photogrammetric processing around Airbus Defence and Space Intelligence core activities (satellite, aerial images and associated services). The development will be made in Agile R&D mode in close coordination with the Pixel Factory and the Sales/Marketing teams.

The position is located in Airbus Defence and Space Intelligence Sophia-Antipolis facility. The R&D Portfolio team is composed of 5 researchers. The team is working closely with operations, marketing and sales to create new innovative features in line with the market and future needs.

This position will require a security clearance or will require being eligible for clearance by the recognized authorities.

Tasks & accountabilities

Since 30 years Airbus Defence and Space Intelligence has developed an image processing suite called the Pixel Factory. It is sold to the largest mapping companies in the world but it is also used within Airbus Defence and Space Intelligence ground systems.

Since two years Airbus Defence and Space Intelligence is developing a digital cloud platform called SmartGeoPlatform. It aims at storing all Airbus Defence and Space Intelligence satellite images on line and developing services around them.

A first operational service, OneAtlas, has been opened in September 2016. The R&D team is working with the Pixel Factory team on making the Pixel Factory fully cloud compatible and on developing new processing/analytical services on the platform.

The candidate will work in a start up spirit mode. He should be passionate by satellite imagery, mathematics, geometry and computer science. He should be opened to new cloud technologies such as a machine learning, analytics, big data... He should look for developping new innovative applications in close collaboration with the business. As most of the image processing and geometric development will be based on a mathematical interpretation of the real world, he should be able to build analytical models of physical processes and measurements.

This role will involve some travels for business and as such you must be able to travel accordingly.

Required skills

We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:

·  You have an engineer diploma, or equivalent, in Mathematic / Geometry, Image processing and Computer Science - Academic background.
·  Development skills in: C, C++, Matlab, IDL.
·  Would be a plus:
·  photogrammetry and/or structure from motion expertise,
·  development in Go, Python,
·  cloud technologies know how,
·  Big Data frameworks : Spark, BigQuery, Machine Learning.
·  Creativity, innovation spirit, curiosity, passion for your technical activity would be essential.
·  Negotiation level in French and in English (spoken and written).
