Description of the job

A vacancy for a Model Based Engineer for Future Projects Office has arisen within Airbus (Commercial Aircraft) in Toulouse. You will join Propulsion System for Future projects within Engineering department
Airbus Future Projects Office mission is to lead the preliminary definition of next aircraft, from incremental developments to "clean sheet" design, in collaboration with the various disciplines of Design Office and other internal & external partners. This mission requires remaining upfront of new technologies, new technics, new methodologies and new ways of working.

Within this team, your mission will be to propose, contribute and lead in an innovative way, the digitalization of multi-disciplinary model-based engineering workflows, as well as contributing to the exploitation of disparate big datasets, with main objective to bring knowledge back to Aircraft and Propulsion preliminary design.

More particularly, the innovative techniques will be applied to emerging concepts and technologies in the field of hybrid-electric propulsion and energy management on board future Aircraft products.

Tasks & accountabilities

You will be responsible for performing technical studies on conceptual Aircraft and Propulsion System design, from configuration development to technology integration and evaluation, within the Future Projects Office in the frame of Feasibility and Concept phases.

You will be in charge of defining overall Aircraft and Propulsion targets for all disciplines meeting the project requirements in relation with the various Airbus Future Projects customers (Programmes, Product Strategy, Research & Technology, etc)

Your main tasks and responsibilities will include:

·  Digitalized model-based engineering workflows may include:

o Parametric 3D geometrical models
o Design of Experiments and surrogate models for multiple aeronautical disciplines (propulsion, aerodynamics, performance etc…)
o Optimizer algorithms

·  Big datasets are for instance about:

o Operational data: confronting real usage versus design objectives.
o Flight tests data.
o Disciplines datasets: aerodynamics, structure, propulsion…
o Customer Support and Market data for weighing design objectives by their impact.

Such activities will be useful to discover new synergies and design opportunities, enhance up-front design rules and ensure link to new technologies.
You will also contribute to transverse activities in order to improve knowledge capture and knowledge management on the new skills and capabilities.

The position lies within the Future Project Office, an Airbus Engineering Domain with teams located all across Europe (France, UK, Germany and Spain).
Although Toulouse-based, this role will offer you the opportunity to work in a transnational & multi-functional environment in close collaboration with other entities from Design Office, Manufacturing, Digital transformation, R&T, etc.

Required skills

You will have the following skills and experience:

·  Educated to 5 years master degree level (or equivalent) in Engineering or a related discipline.
·  Experience in handling model-based engineering and optimization workflows. Ability to generate surrogate models.
·  Proficiency of R-programming and/or scientific Python or equivalent.
·  Experience with relational database management (e.g. SQL).
·  Experience of data science studies involving data gathering/crawling, data cleaning, data processing/analysis and visualization.
·  Aircraft, Propulsion and Energy culture.
·  Team Player
·  Good communication skills
·  Ability to work in a multicultural environment
·  Analytical and synthesis skills
·  Language Skills: Advanced level of English.
