Location: Hamburg
Start: 01.01.2017
Duration: 6 months
Today the latest Airbus families use electrically driven, speed controlled, fully integrated fans for several applications in the cabin, cargo and compartment ventilation systems. For every application a unique has been specified, designed, qualified and certified. That led to high development costs for each A/C type. Basically the fans consist of following components:
· Pneumatic part (housing, impeller, guide vanes, noise suppression, check valve)
· Input stage (converting AC with variable frequency to DC)
· Filter (EMI and current distortion)
· Inverter (PWM)
· Control board (communication with system, monitoring fan health and driving inverter)
· Synchronous motor (providing speed and torque to impeller)
Desired profile
Tasks & accountabilities
For future Airbus programs there is a proposal to develop a standardized modular catalogue of the fans in range of 0.5 to 20 kVA. In this manner the modules have to be developed once and used for all future programs as well as substitute the fully integrated fans in scope of system evolution of running programs. Design improvements will then effect all applications and the manufacturing costs may be reduced due to higher lot size.
The Master Thesis aims to develop a modules catalogue and specification sets. In particular the thesis shall consist of following steps:
· Definition of possible modules: Elaboration of best set of components in terms of function, rating and power supply of the aircraft (constant or variable frequency, 115 VAC or 230 VAC, HVDC)
· Definition and specification of Interfaces: Generic requirements for electrical, communication, thermal and mechanical interfaces in order to ensure the system operation
· Specification of electrical parameters of the electrical modules: Detailed requirements necessary for design and qualification of each module
Required skills
You offer:
· Enrolled student (m/f) within Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, Electrical Machines or similar field of study
· good knowledge within the standard tools like Word, Excel, PowerPoint
· English: advanced
You have the ability to work efficiently in multidisciplinary and multicultural teams and you have very good communication skills.
