Description of the job

A vacancy for a Junior Physiology & Cognitive Ergonomics specialist has arisen within Airbus in Toulouse.

Human Factors mission is to contribute to safety and customer's operations efficiency, by ensuring that Airbus is considering the Human performance and limitations for its Product, Services and Processes. Optimize human operator workload and minimize errors, enable effective abnormal situation responses and enhance task performance is part of the mission.

Human Factors aim at ensuring the link between users, their activities and social context. Human factors professionals contribute to defining and validating a large number of products, ensuring the safety demonstration and certification including on Human Factors aspects.
This purpose is resulting from the application of Human Factors knowledge and methods all along the Products/Services life cycle.

The main competences related to the HF job are: cognitive psychology, ergonomics, linguistics, physiology, health and safety, aeromedicine, education, sociology.

Tasks & accountabilities

As an applied Physiology & Cognitive Ergonomics specialist, you dedicate your Human Science competences and skills to the design and evaluation of innovative human-centred on-board solutions, ensuring a safe and efficient operation of in-service and future Airbus Aircraft.

Your key role, within aircraft systems design integrated teams, is to put the pilot/maintainer at the centre of the design, and ensure the efficient and effective consideration of Human actors specificities.

You will enjoy working day-to-day in an inspiring environment, plenty of amazing highly knowledgeable and inventive people!

You are passionate about bringing Physiology and Cognitive Ergonomics' added value to critical & complex layouts, functions, technologies and operations.

Ensuring physical adaptation of general workspace layout and Human Machine Interaction means to users' needs is your day-to-day concern.

Explaining, justifying and defending Human Factors position is a challenge you enjoy.

Moved by a strong innovation spirit, you have already proven during your previous experience your ability to initiate, lead, develop and implement innovative solutions on highly complex safety critical functions.

Keen on always improving existing products, you are familiar with processing user's feedback and other relevant data to propose evolutions.
Working in multidisciplinary team, you are a natural, open and trustworthy team player dedicated to deliver the right product/function in due time.

Job main challenges:

·  Be Customer/User and Safety focused
·  Have a critical view on in development solutions. Manage conflicting recommendations.
·  Master technical aspects
·  Clearly explain Human Factors and Ergonomics goals and recommendations (pedagogical role with designers and other specialists involved)
·  Speak up when required
·  Act efficiently as a pragmatic and professional mediator between pilots and designers (technical & operational language)
·  Synthetize method, results and recommendations in comprehensive Technical notes
·  Stay aware of all new technologies and evolutions of HF discipline and propose evolutions/ innovations
·  Involve other Human factors' disciplines as required
·  Be a Human Factors and Ergonomics' discipline ambassador inside and outside Airbus
·  Work in multi-cultural and multi-discipline teams

Required skills

We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:

·  Degree in applied Physiology and Cognitive Ergonomics (Major in Physiological Ergonomics)
·  Specific knowledge of human behaviour (perception, understanding, problem solving ) & characteristics (impact of fatigue, stress, workload, Situation Awareness, experience, competence, motivation, personality …)
·  Specific knowledge of adequate Human Factors methods to be applied in respect of usability and ecological interface design principles.
·  knowledge in vision (eye fatigue, visual accommodation, monocular/binocular vision), optics and screens/displays is a significant plus.
·  Strong Interest in Aircraft systems and architecture as well as in Aircraft operations & user's tasks is a must. (Experience in aeronautical field and/or pilot license are significant plus)
·  Capability and willingness to work efficiently within an aircraft function / system design team, understanding and defining user's needs, operational and technical constraints.
·  Ability to work with strong time and quality pressure with Agile Mindset and principles
·  Ability to learn and work easily on different subjects
·  Natural and strong team spirit
·  An intermediate level of English is required
·  An intermediate level of French is a significant plus.
