Description of the job

A vacancy for an IoT and 5G Networks and System Engineer (m/f) has arisen within Airbus Defence and Space in Toulouse. You will join the Telecom Systems (TSTI2) department, whose main role is to promote the use of application services through satellites (GEO or LEO).

This will involve actions of technological monitoring of the field (R&D), the design of innovative solutions up to their implementation as demonstrators (proof of concept). For this, the department has set up a BLUELab laboratory equipped with a set of hardware elements and software which is specific to this field, enabling the implementation of the demonstration bench in order to validate the feasibility of communication systems.

The targeted telecommunication applications include fixed or mobile broadband/broadcast, and more recently M2M (IoT) and 5G.

As a Networks and System Engineer, you will be in charge of projects including telecommunication satellites and R&D projects. You will in particular work on M2M/IoT and 5G communication systems.

Tasks & accountabilities

Your main activities and responsibilities will include:

·  Designing complete system architectures (including terminals, satellite, core network) and networks (network architecture, communication protocols) from the physical layer to the application layer,
·  Modelling the systems and assessing their performance,
·  Validating certain elements of the system on the test bench,
·  Carrying out technological monitoring related to the system and its network elements,
·  Contributing to the drafting of service and/or system specifications,
·  Contributing to the preliminary definition of candidate system architectures and associated sub-systems,
·  Contributing to the drafting of system operational concepts,
·  Defining network and protocol architectures,
·  Estimating the costs and development schedules of network elements of the system,
·  Participating in performance analyses and trade-off systems,
·  Taking part in the drafting of system analysis summaries,
·  Carrying out network performance analyses and writing the associated summaries,
·  Being responsible for protocols, network and/or systems of work packages and guaranteeing quality/deadline/cost,
·  Ensuring the technical consistency at a protocol and network level,
·  Drafting protocol specifications and network elements documents,
·  Contributing to various system documents,
·  Specifying the equipment and software necessary for the validation of network elements and protocols,
·  Validating these elements on the test bench,
·  Participating in design reviews (internal/external).

This position will require regular travel for work and as such you must be able to travel accordingly.

Required skills

As the successful candidate, you will be able to demonstrate some of the following skills and experience:

·  Engineering degree in Telecommunication and Networks,
·  Initial experience on similar projects,
·  Familiar with the architectures of communication systems, in particular wireless systems (WLAN, WAN, cellular, etc.),
·  Good knowledge of telecommunication equipment: antenna, front end RF (filters, up/down converter, PA, LNA), ASIC, FPGA, micro-processors, PCB design, etc.
·  Knowledge of communication systems by satellite, as well as 5G and IoT systems would be a plus,
·  Practical knowledge of digital communication methods: modulation and encoding, synchronisation technique and muti-user detection, etc.,
·  Good knowledge of access methods and waveforms: TDM, FDM, OFDM, CDMA, Random Access techniques, etc.,
·  Good knowledge of 3GPP mobile cellular standards (2G, 3G, 4G): RAN (physical layer, MAC and network) and Core Network,
·  Familiar with TCP/IP framework and protocols, routing, QoS and network management,
·  Knowledge of LPWAN (Sigfox, Lora) protocols would be a plus,
·  Proficiency with programming languages (C/C++, Matlab, Java, Script Shell), exploitation systems (Linux, Windows), as well as equipment, such as spectrum analyser, radio software (USRP type).
·  Team spirit, independent nature and sense of responsibility,
·  An advanced level of English and a negotiation level of French.
