Internship / Structural Damping Design and Optimization (m/f)
Internship Suresnes (Hauts-de-Seine) Design / UX / UI
Description de l'offre
Airbus Group Innovations Suresnes
Airbus Group is a global leader in aeronautics, space and related services. In 2014, the Group - comprising Airbus, Airbus Defence and Space and Airbus Helicopters - generated revenues of € 60.7 billion and employed a workforce of around 138,600.
Description of the job
Airbus Group Innovations (Nantes) is looking for an intern for a 6-month internship.
The applicant will join the acoustics and vibration team of the Airbus Group research department (Suresnes, France), and contribute to the team activity in the field of damping design and optimization (structural dynamics).
This internship will start on 14th March, 2016 (subject to some flexibility).

Tasks & accountabilities
Your main tasks will include:
1/ The achievement of a complete design loop (focus=mechanical engineering):
· Modelling the dynamics of the aircraft (use of Patran/Hypermesh, Nastran/Abaqus),
· Identifying the elastomer characteristics (experimental modal analysis, dynamic mechanical analysis, numerical/experimental correlation),
· Designing and optimizing a solution, which helps reducing vibrations while respecting stringent engineering requirements (use of Matlab optimization toolbox, further development of internal codes).
2/ The development of an overall optimization strategy (focus=numerical analysis):
· Benchmarking available algorithms (Matlab optimization toolbox: limits, efficiency),
· Defining a pertinent topological strategy (finite element preprocessing, optimization problem scope/constraints),
· Defining a strategy for reducing the overall CPU time (reanalysis, innovative optimization algorithms),
· Determining innovative designs, which outperform standard treatments (final validation in a standard finite element code -Nastran-).
The work will consist in achieving new damping treatments on the aircraft fuselage or/and in designing innovative damping struts, in order to lower the plane floor vibration level without altering the structure's main characteristics (i.e. static stiffness and weight).
Depending on the candidate profile and interest, the focus will be put on:
· The engineering aspect of the design,
· The mathematical and numerical aspects of the optimization. The overall objective consists in bringing the damping designs to a higher level of efficiency and maturity in these specific fields of application.
