Description de l'offre

Airbus Defence & Space Toulouse (ex Astrium SL)

Airbus Defence and Space is a division of Airbus Group, formed by combining the business activities of Cassidian, Astrium and Airbus Military. The new division is Europe's number one defence and space enterprise, the second largest space business worldwide and among the top ten global defence enterprises. It has an annual revenue of around €14 billion and employs approximately 40,000 people.

Airbus Group is a global leader in aeronautics, space and related services. In 2014, the Group - comprising Airbus, Airbus Defence and Space and Airbus Helicopters - generated revenues of € 60.7 billion and employed a workforce of around 138,600.

Description of the job

Airbus Defence and Space (Toulouse) is looking for an intern for a 6-month internship.

The technical legacy of astrodynamics is composed mainly of tools developed for very specific needs, according to a standard but restrictive pattern: detailed specifications – coding – compilation.

However, the development of new programmes requires that new algorithms be designed and before the detailed specifications can be written, it is necessary to pass through the prototyping phase.

The existing tools are, however, not suitable to this phase because they are difficult to develop and any modification therefore takes significant time. It is therefore necessary to become equipped with more lightweight and practical tools to be able to test and prototype new algorithms.

The internship will take place in the GNC and Flight Dynamics/AOCS Studies department, within a team of Flight Dynamics engineers who carry out studies on mission analyses, orbitography operational software developments and on stationing operations for the telecommunication and low Earth orbit satellites.

This internship will start on 1st March 2016 (subject to some flexibility).

Tasks & accountabilities

Among other tasks, your responsibilities will include:

· Producing an analysis of the astrodynamic needs concerning trajectories, chemical or electrical nozzle manoeuvers, the orbital disturbances to take into account to maintain the stationing of satellites and the constraints connected with satellite platforms,
· Using Matlab/Scilab to implement a prototyping tool, integrating the orbital propagation capacity, based on the existing libraries. Components simulating manoeuvers will also be developed. Finally, the application will enable the validation of the tool in terms of performance and ease of use.
