Tasks & accountabilities

Your main mission will involve identifying or refining the main short and long-term drivers of helicopter market growth, in order to develop or to improve an existing forecasting model.

You will produce short and long-term market forecasts for civil and/or military helicopters, based on the study and analysis of the following sectors:

·  Macroeconomic trends (GDP, demographic trends, etc.);
·  Geopolitics/Defence (conflicts, emerging countries, defence budgets, etc.);
·  Potential new markets;
·  Past, current and future market structure and trends;
·  Product policy of Airbus Helicopters and its competitors.

You will identify correlations between helicopter markets and macroeconomic variables, using information processing techniques.
You will model the civil and/or military helicopter markets through econometric methods and statistical modelling.

The study will be performed on one or more market segments using different databases for historical market data. Various variables, mainly macroeconomic will need to be used to perform this study; however a search of additional variables that can be correlated to the helicopter market will need to be conducted.

Additionally, this study must be validated by producing an analysis of past trends.

Several different helicopter databases (internal and external to the company) will be used for this internship. They include different levels of detail, in particular in terms of use of aircraft (market segments).
The fleet of helicopters included in these databases represents almost 60,000 helicopters on a global scale. This data is mostly annual. The first helicopters deliveries go back to the year 1940 which represents more than 30 years of history for the market segments.

For the second hand market, the data is monthly. The fleet and delivery variables can be expressed by number of helicopters and by value, but also by passengers (transportation capacity).

Required skills

You are in the final year of an engineering school, university or equivalent (5-year degree), specialising in Mathematics/Economy/Econometrics.

You ideally have initial experience in this field.

·  Statistics (imputation of missing value, multi-variable data analysis, etc.),
·  Machine Learning (non linear estimation, MCMC, etc.),
·  Other (scraping, shiny app, data visualisation, etc.),
·  Programming language (R, Python, etc.)
·  Knowledge of database management,
