Tasks & accountabilities

In this internship you will develop a model capable of representing airplane accelerated or decelerated phases during any phase of the taxi on ground, in order to quantify the duration of taxi phases or to provide inputs to airport real-time simulation tools.

Your main tasks will include:

·  Determining the main parameters governing airplane accelerated, constant speed or decelerated taxi phases through the analysis of physics equations applied to an airplane on ground;
·  Through exchanges with other departments, being in charge of airplane displacement modelling and understanding the variability of dynamic taxi phases due to pilot inputs and the environmental conditions such as visibility, slopes, traffic, taxi phase (such as runway crossing, turn), airport ground control instructions, etc.;
·  Performing statistical analyses of available record data and simulated data in order to find correlations and evaluate the need for specific simulations;
·  Developing and validating a model that will fit Airport Operations domain needs;
·  If time permits, a fuel consumption calculation will be included in the model.

Required skills

You are in the 2nd year of a Master's Degree or in the 5th year of an Engineering School, specialised in Aeronautical / Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.

Ideally, you have gathered work experience in this domain.

You have a good understanding of Mechanics and Physics.
Furthermore you have knowledge of an aircraft in general and especially of the taxi phase.

You possess basic programming skills e.g. in Matlab and very good MS Excel skills.

You have strong analysis and synthesis skills and are able to work autonomously.

Your surrounding values your good team spirit and interpersonal skills as well as communication skills that enable you to effectively gather information.
