Description of the job

An internship position in Big Data Engineering – ADSB Monitoring (m/f) has arisen within Airbus in Toulouse. You will join the Surveillance Systems team. This team is responsible for the specification, the development and the certification of surveillance systems, especially the transponder systems in charge of ADS-B function. ADS-B is a technology that allows aircraft to broadcast their identification, position, and many other data, mainly for Air Traffic Control Purpose.

The purpose of the internship will be to develop statistical tools to process ADS-B data.

This internship will start in February 2017 (subject to some flexibility).

Tasks & accountabilities

Your main tasks and responsibilities will include:

·  Analysing the state of the art of Transponder systems: ADS-B message structure, Transponder implementation, Airspaces uses and current and future ADS-B mandates understanding (Europe, US, Australia, Canada, etc.)
·  Collecting needs with different stakeholders for ADS-B data processing objectives: Airbus Design Office (surveillance and navigation systems), Laboratory staff, potential contact with Airbus India staff, potential contacts with Eurocontrol
·  Developing statistical data analysis tools (R language, and/or Matlab)
·  Developing solutions to extract valuable data

Required skills

We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:

·  In the 2nd year of a Master's degree or in the 5th year of a university or engineering school, with a specialisation in statistical or aeronautical
·  Knowledge in data analysis tools (R language and/or Matlab)
·  Good Excel proficiency level (Macros, etc.)
·  Electronics skills would be a plus, linked to surveillance systems scope (Transponder, TCAS, Radio-communications)
·  Aeronautics skills: basic notions of aircraft operations and Air Traffic Control
·  Advanced level of English and intermediate level of French
