Our diversity and teamwork culture propel us to accomplish the extraordinary - on the ground, in the sky and in space.

Description of the job

Airbus Defence and Space (Les Mureaux) is looking for an intern (m/f) for a 6-month internship.

Numerical study and analysis of the adhesion of pockets to the wall at the feed-through of a liquid/gas interface.
In the context of understanding biphasic flows, the internship is being offered within the hydrodynamic analysis department.
The theme for the internship is numerical analysis of the entrainment phenomenon on pockets due to the irregularities on the wall surface.
The study will cover in particular the adhesion conditions at the feed-through of a gas/liquid interface. The objective is the establishment of a hierarchy of the parameters governing the first order of the adhesion phenomenon.
The internship includes two work paths.
First of all, a search for a demonstration case and the implementation of a dedicated numerical strategy.
Secondly, execution of a set of simulations in order to identify the predominant parameters.

This internship will start on 2nd January 2017 (subject to some flexibility).

Tasks & accountabilities

The internship will consist of several phases:
1/A bibliographical study of separate phase flows; establishment of the adhesion criteria of the pockets to the wall. Search in the literature for an existing case.

2/ Familiarisation with the available multi-phase CFD codes and preparation of a demonstration case.

3/ Performance of calculations on the feasibility of adhesion of pockets. According to the initial results from simulations, a sensitivity study will be conducted in order to characterise the pocket adhesion criteria. Several study parameters are considered: the profile and velocity of the object, the characteristic size of the projections as well as the conditions of the surrounding fluid.

An evaluation methodology must also be proposed for evaluating the quality of the numerical results.
