Description of the job

A vacancy for an internship in Flight Management System Design has arisen within Airbus in Toulouse. The successful applicant will join the Flight Management & Airport Navigation department.
The Flight Management System is a key avionic system within the modern cockpit. Its role is to automate and/or support tasks that reduce the crew workload and optimise flight. These include:
¤ Flight plan set-up,
¤ Predictions on flight plan waypoints (altitude, speed, time),
¤ Calculation of a lateral and vertical route and aircraft guidance (speed, lateral, vertical) along it, etc.
This internship will start beginning of January 2017 (subject to some flexibility).

Profil recherché

Tasks & accountabilities

Within this context, you will be in charge of performing a full loop of design activity on a future FMS function in a context of pre-design. The objective will be to capture the need, specify the expected design, agree on a prototyping plan with appropriate partners, perform prototype validation and determine the maturity and necessary changes to be performed for the future real development of the function on certified systems.
These activities will require an understanding of the overall context of use of the system, ability to plan and decide upon activities with several partners, flexibility to adapt prototype content and validation objectives to best suit efficiency and ability to mitigate the risk inherent to the function development.

Required skills

We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:

·  In a 2nd year of a Master's degree or in the 5th year of university or engineering school,
·  Strong interest in the aeronautical domain; a private pilot license would be a plus,
·  Some knowledge of trajectory optimisation,
·  Ideally, knowledge of Matlab
·  Advanced level of English.
