Internship / Electromechanical servocontrol control and command (m/f)

Airbus Safran Launchers Les Mureaux

Created by Airbus Group and Safran, Airbus Safran Launchers is a 50/50 joint venture bringing together the expertise and assets of both groups in terms of civil and military space launchers.
Its industrial and technological heritage, linked to the passion which drives the men and women of Airbus Safran Launchers, is what has enabled it to become the current world leader in space access.
Through clever operations at all levels, Airbus Safran Launchers offers innovative and competitive solutions to its customers, in order to bring the European space industry to its highest level and thereby guarantee independent access to space.

Airbus Group is a global leader in aeronautics, space and related services. In 2015, the Group - comprising Airbus, Airbus Defence and Space and Airbus Helicopters - generated revenues of € 64.5 billion and employed a workforce of around 136,600.

Our people work with passion and determination to make the world a more connected, safer and smarter place. Taking pride in our work, we draw on each other's expertise and experience to achieve excellence. Our diversity and teamwork culture propel us to accomplish the extraordinary - on the ground, in the sky and in space.

Description of the job

Airbus Safran Launchers (Les Mureaux) is looking for an intern (m/f) for a 6-month internship.

You will work on the performance assessment of the electromechanical actuators for the control of the new European ARIANE 6 launcher.

You will work on the development of the electromechanical servocontrols of the acceleration stages (solid-propellant boosters) and the upper stage (VINCI re-ignitable cryogenic engine).
As an integral part of the flight control (Flight Control System), these servocontrols steer the thrust based on the instructions received from the pilot in order to control the launcher attitude in flight.

This internship will start on 2nd February 2017 (subject to some flexibility).

Tasks & accountabilities

Your mission will consist in studying, for each servocontrol, the servo and local control loop of the electromechanical actuators. You will analyse, in particular, the electrotechnical aspects of the local control of the synchronous motors, the types of which vary depending on the stage (star-connected multiphase synchronous motor, multiphase synchronous motor without a common neutral point - H-bridge/phase).

The proposed method is as follows: Based on a preliminary design of each servocontrol, you will be required to model the servocontrols using mechatronics (SIMSCAPE). The model will primarily concern the local control of the electric motor (see description above).
The following aspects will be addressed:

·  The steady state (engine at constant speed),
·  The transient state (control in actuator position),
·  Fault modelling as regards the power electronics or the engine.

You will then establish the associated performance and the behaviour of each servocontrol according to the different life cycles encountered.

Required skills

You are in the final year of engineering school, completing a Master's degree or at university (5th year), specialising in Aeronautics, Automation, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics/Engine Control.

Ideally, you have initial work experience.

You must be a citizen of the European Community (being eligible to confidential security clearance would be a plus).

Knowledge of MATLAB-SIMULINK and SIMSCAPE would be a plus

You are a good team player and have excellent interpersonal skills.

English: intermediate level,
French: fluent level.
