Description of the job

Airbus Helicopters (Marignane) is looking for an intern (m/f) for a 6-month internship.

Within the Airbus Helicopters Laboratory for Materials and Processes (LMP), you will report to the Green Methodology and Coatings department in charge of developing and qualifying coatings on detail parts and aircraft.
Further to new REACh environmental regulations, anti-fretting coats and paint contain substances that must be substituted. The LMP is in charge of finding new alternatives, as well as evaluating and qualifying them.

The aim of this internship is to participate in the substitution of anti-fretting coats on mechanical parts.

You will participate in the elaboration of the qualification plan, the assessment of pre-selected substitution products and the qualification of the selected product.
You will also be required to work on the rationalisation of anti-fretting coats.

This internship will start on 2nd January 2017 (subject to some flexibility).

Tasks & accountabilities

Your tasks will include:

Work description:

1/ Substitution of anti-fretting coats

·  Defining the qualification plan/test matrix/implementation and follow-up of test specimens in the various configurations (substrate, surface treatment) identified in work specifications for the evaluation/qualification of the pre-selected anti-fretting coats,
·  Performing/following up coating characterisation tests in the laboratory in accordance with the evaluation/qualification programme,
·  Drafting evaluation reports for the tested coatings and technical documents, - Working in a project mode will be requested.

You will be in charge of the implementation of project follow-up tools (cost, planning, reporting).

2/ Rationalisation of anti-fretting coats

·  Implementing a synthesis matrix (substrates/application/performance) of anti-fretting coats that are already qualified based on existing documentation and with the assistance of fretting specialist,
·  Based on new products undergoing assessment, looking for rationalisation opportunities of anti-fretting coats,
·  Setting up a coat base to help with the selection.

3/ Substitution of fluorescent/phosphorescent paints

·  Depending on operational opportunities, you may also work on the evaluation and qualification of specific fluorescent/phosphorescent paint types.

Required skills

You are in the final year of engineering school, university or equivalent (5-year degree), specialising in Materials or Chemistry (with a major in organic materials/surface treatment).

You ideally have initial experience in this field.

You are a good team player and have excellent interpersonal skills.

English: intermediate level,
French: fluent.
