Description of the job

Airbus Group Innovations (Toulouse) is looking for an intern for a 6-month internship.

The internship will take place within a team of the Structure Health Engineering Department of Airbus Group Innovations Toulouse Research Center. The activities of the department deal with the non-destructive investigation and health monitoring of materials and structures used in aircraft. The techniques used are mostly ultrasound, eddy current, optical, X-rays but these areas also rely on many different skills (mathematics, physics, material, electronics,
signal and image processing, optics, computer). The team's goal is to develop innovative products and methods to optimize the performance of Airbus divisions.
Prototype and develop machine learning processes and tools for NDT applications like ultrasonic signals or images of structural part of aircraft.

This internship will start on 1st February, 2016 (subject to some flexibility).

Tasks & accountabilities

Your main tasks will include:

· Identifying parameters to be considered,
· Selecting the most appropriate algorithms,
· Defining the complete process and developing the machine learning module in order to highlight relevant anomalies and classify them automatically. This module may be developed in Python language but will have to be interfaced with existing data post-processing software developed in Java.

Due to the high data volume and fast computation request, it may be necessary to develop new data processing algorithms before using machine learning approach.
The data to be processed will be mainly ultrasonic data coming from real parts inspected in Airbus production sites.

You will work in a team with the industrial software developers and R&D engineers. He may also work in close cooperation with another trainee dealing with a connected topic.

Profil recherché

Required skills

You are in the 2nd year of a master's degree or you are in the 5th year of engineering school specialising in mathematics and modeling, statistics, probability and programming.

You ideally have initial experience in this field and you have knowledge of Mathematics, Statistics, Probability, Image and Data Processing, Programming (Java, Python).

You are a good team player and have excellent interpersonal skills.
You are recognized for your curiosity, creativity and ability to suggest potential solutions.

English: negotiation level,
French, German or Spanish would be a plus.
