Description de l'offre

Internship/Application of Machine Learning to controlling automated drones (m/f)

Airbus Toulouse

Airbus is a global leader in aeronautics, space and related services. In 2016, it generated revenues of € 67 billion and employed a workforce of around 134,000. Airbus offers the most comprehensive range of passenger airliners from 100 to more than 600 seats. Airbus is also a European leader providing tanker, combat, transport and mission aircraft, as well as Europe's number one space enterprise and the world's second largest space business. In helicopters, Airbus provides the most efficient civil and military rotorcraft solutions worldwide.

Our people work with passion and determination to make the world a more connected, safer and smarter place. Taking pride in our work, we draw on each other's expertise and experience to achieve excellence. Our diversity and teamwork culture propel us to accomplish the extraordinary - on the ground, in the sky and in space.

Description of the job

Airbus Toulouse is looking for an intern for a 6-month period.

The objective of your internship will be to implement new techniques of Machine Learning and process large databases.
Our ultimate goal is to develop a robust flight system for automated drones (UAVs).
Recent progress in Machine Learning algorithms enables systems to independently learn to process the signals that originate from their sensors (accelerometers, radar/sonar, cameras, etc.) to generate an order for controlling their various actuators. This type of algorithm is used more and more in robotics and for controlling automated vehicles.
The learning process relies on processing a large database that typically contains signals measured by the sensors, as well as orders generated by the system (which also enables the implementation of supervised learning techniques). Training the system may also include reinforcement learning (by simulation) to incorporate the highest level of objectives.
You will implement this process in the context of controlling an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV).

This internship will start on 1st March 2017 (subject to some flexibility).

Tasks & accountabilities

Your main tasks will include:

·  Collecting, generating and processing large quantities of real or simulated flight data,
·  Studying, integrating and reproducing a state of the art of the results available in the literature,
·  Designing and optimising the architecture for a large neuron network,
·  Training and testing this network in a simulation,
·  Potentially implementing the system on an actual drone (if conditions allow it and if the previous steps were performed successfully).

Required skills

You are in the final year of engineering school, specialising in Systems Engineering.

You have knowledge in:

·  Mechanics,
·  Flight control,
·  Machine Learning (knowledge of Deep Learning and convolutional networks would also be appreciated),
·  Programming,
·  Data Science,
·  Linux.

Experience with standard Deep Learning tools (Caffe, Torch, TensorFlow or Theano) would also be recommended.

You are a good team player and have excellent interpersonal skills.

English: Advanced level.
French: Intermediate level.
