Internship - Advanced mitigation algorithms for GNSS processing (m/f)

Airbus Defence & Space Toulouse (ex Astrium SL)

Airbus Defence and Space is a division of Airbus Group formed by combining the business activities of Cassidian, Astrium and Airbus Military. The new division is Europe's number one defence and space enterprise, the second largest space business worldwide and among the top ten global defence enterprises. It employs some 40,000 employees generating revenues of approximately €14 billion per year.

Airbus Group is a global leader in aeronautics, space and related services. In 2015, the Group - comprising Airbus, Airbus Defence and Space and Airbus Helicopters - generated revenues of € 64.5 billion and employed a workforce of around 136,600.

Our people work with passion and determination to make the world a more connected, safer and smarter place. Taking pride in our work, we draw on each other's expertise and experience to achieve excellence. Our diversity and teamwork culture propel us to accomplish the extraordinary - on the ground, in the sky and in space.

Description of the job

An internship for the Development of advanced mitigation algorithms for GNSS Signal processing (m/f) has arisen within the Airbus Defence and Space in Toulouse.

GNSS receivers provide a means of positioning anywhere on the globe by measuring pseudoranges with respect to several satellites and combining them to estimate a position. However, the pseudorange measurements are affected by systematic errors that originate from several sources which include thermal noise, multipath, clock/ephemeris and atmospheric delays. Errors such as atmospheric errors can be reduced by using well known correction models or external corrections.

On the other hand, it is possible to robustify the GNSS receivers against multipath and interference at the signal processing level. For example, techniques such as double-delta, MEDLL or vision correlator have been developed to mitigate multipath errors.

The internship will be conducted within the Mission, Control, RF Chains Department (TSOTU4, ~60 engineers).

Internship length: 5 to 6 months between January and September 2017.

Tasks & accountabilities

Your objectives in this internship are:

·  Investigating multipath and interference mitigation techniques for legacy and new signals.
·  Implementing and assessing the performances of advanced signal processing techniques to mitigate multipath or interference as well as other phenomena such as false locks on CBOC side peaks. These steps will be conducted on simulated data.
·  Testing the techniques on real GNSS signals.

Required skills

We are looking for candidates with the following profile:

·  Enrolled in your final Master degree in an Engineering School or equivalent, in GNSS, Signal Processing, applied mathematics or in Software Development,
·  Advanced level in English required. Notions of French could be a plus,

Required knowledge/background

·  Solid background in GNSS, signal processing and applied mathematics,
·  Generic background in space applications and navigation systems,
·  Software development skills: Matlab, C/C++.
