Description of the job

Airbus Defence and Space (Toulouse) is looking for an intern for a 6 month internship.

Agile missions are characterized by the realization of minimum-time slew maneuvers with fast acceleration and braking sequences. Up to now, majority of agile satellites operate in Low Earth Orbits and are designed to be as rigid as possible. Onboard AOCS architectures rely on a two-stage feedback/feedforward structure associated to segregated sequences (i.e., fast maneuver, tranquilization and imaging) but need to be drastically revisited to efficiently address the upcoming missions which will involve flexible wings with rotating mechanisms. The excitation of appendices flexibilities during the manoeuvers will degrade the tranquilization duration whereas the solar array drive mechanisms will degrade the pointing stability requirements during the imaging phase.

This internship will start on 3 rd April 2017 (subject to some flexibility).

Tasks & accountabilities

The purpose of this internship is to contribute to the development of innovative control architecture while addressing the mechanism sizing impact on the pointing stability (i.e., co-design activity). Nonlinear/adaptive control solutions will be first developed under Matlab/Simulink environment. Custom design representative breadboards based on Cots hardware (Arduino-like devices) will be developed to host the developed control solutions and to demonstrate theirs benefit as regards to the classical ones. Optical based control will be also analyzed for active vibration damping.
