Description of the job
Airbus Defence and Space (Toulouse) is looking for an intern for a 6 month internship.
For more than a decade, Airbus Defence and Space has been investigating robust navigation solutions for space applications. State of the art technologies may apply for both space and terrestrial applications, in this case both during the last few thousand kilometres of an asteroid approach, and during proximity operations of UAVs.
Fostering the evolution of cutting edge technologies, the GNC and Image processing teams in Toulouse are investigating high-performance vision-based solutions.
The purpose of this internship is to support the GNC team in the development of the library of vision-based algorithm for navigation.
This internship will start on 3 rd April 2017 (subject to some flexibility).

Tasks & accountabilities
To do so, you will be in charge of:
· Implementing a library of SLAM algorithms in interface with the navigation environment developed by the GNC team
· Assessing the performance of the SLAM algorithms on reference scenarios
· Proposing improvements and a development plan toward real time implementation
The performance of the SLAM-based solution will be benchmarked w.r.t. other solutions and documented, in order to be proposed as a possible baseline for future developments.
Required skills
You are in the 2nd year of a master's or the 5th year of engineering school, university or equivalent specializing in Aerospace Engineering.
You ideally have an initial experience in this domain.
You have knowledge of:
· Matlab Simulink, C/C++
· Estimation theory
· Image processing
· Interest in space exploration and UAVs.
You are a strong team player and have excellent interpersonal skills.
English: negotiation level,
French: negotiation level.
