Description of the job

For observation missions, thermoelastic stability is an essential parameter for mission performance.
This performance is justified analytically by thermoelastic analyses that take into account the geometry and thermal expension of the materials involved.
However, mechanical and thermal models do not always include electrical wiring, which is difficult to model because of the discrepencies between 3D models and implementation on the spacecraft and non-linearities linked to large displacements. This approximation has been found to be unacceptable for some spacecrafts requiring a stringent pointing stability where the stiffness of the wiring can make a significant contribution.
The objective of the internship is to progress in the mechanical modeling of wiring.

This 6 Month internship will start in the first quarter 2018. (Date subject to some flexibility).
This position requires a security clearance or eligibility for clearance by recognized authorities.

Tasks & accountabilities

The trainee will have to :

·  Perform bibliographic research on the subject (definition, modeling, essays)
·  On current and previous programs, make a report on the harnesses directly connecting the platform to the instruments (definition, properties, routing, interfaces...)
·  Model and predict the stiffness of wires bundles representative of typical platform/instrument interfaces
·  Define a test configuration to characterize the stiffness of these harnesses
·  Conducting these tests, correlating with the models and writing a test report
·  Finally, the trainee will have to edit a document summarizing the rules for installing a harness in order to minimize thermoelastic distortions.

·  Conducting tests.
·  Motivation, rigour, strength of proposal, spirit of synthesis, relational.
·  Good level of technical English.
