Description of the job
A vacancy for a Flight Control Law designer has arisen within Airbus to be based on the Toulouse site in France.
In the frame of the Engineering function, the Systems Center of Compétences and the Flight Control Domain, the job holder will contribute to the next generation development (design, integration and certification of modifications) of the Flight Control Laws. In particular, he/she will act on the implementation of generic F/C Laws (easily portable for one Aircraft to another) in the frame of the Integrated Flight Control System
It may then vary along with the other programmes needs, and also to give the possibility to the job holder to develop on other programmes and technologies..
The jobholder will join the Airbus Flight Control Laws team and will be in charge of modifications of flight control laws (Manual or Automatic pilot) to be integrated in the future standard of the Flight Control Systems computers.

Tasks & accountabilities
As the successful candidate your main activities will include:
· Defining, developping, integrating and validating Flight control laws and then integrating them into A/C primary and secondary control systems to ensure good handling qualities and to match the safety &required performance level- according to Airbus systems engineering processes.
· designing the control laws themselves (Formal specification based on SAO or SCADE)
· validating the control laws through simulation of the flight with models and simulation, and then with real hardware and finally in flight tests, and providing all data for the certification of these control laws.
· Managing and defining interfaces with aircraft loads process and cockpit operations.
He/she will use SAO Specification tools (SCADE or similar), simulation tools (SIMPA, OCASIME,...) and assist the test center for validation based on full systems simulator (A/C-1 and A/C0) and Flight tests.
A core competency is Automatic Control of Systems (Design, stability, performance, ...). Typical tools are Matlab, Simulink, and some Airbus internal tools.
As the jobholder will act directly on simulation platforms, openness to piloting skills and understanding is useful.
He/she will be in close interface with the flight tests pilots and flight test engineers in order to meet their needs and the programme requirements.
The job holder is then expected to put his/her creativity and autonomy at the service of programmes development in a pragmatic mindset, taking into account all the key constraints of a designer, such as Safety, efficiency of the design, design-to-cost (no over-design).
He/she will have the rare opportunity to quickly see the result of those actions in flight. Between the start of the design and the first flight with the modification, it can be less than 4 weeks.
The job also encompasses:
· Evaluate stability and controllability of the A/C, develop flight control laws to augment the natural stability, Assess the stabilising surfaces (empennages) and the control surfaces
· Designing flight control laws for automatic control and manual augmented control to improve natural A/C handling, preparing integration in the A/C control system. Ensuring the functional design of A/C control new functions.
This position in an innovative and challenging environment offers anb exclusive opportunity to develop your own creativity and team spirit. A long term multi-disciplinary development can also be proposed in the domain to handling qualities, systems computers and actuators. This experience will definitely open diverse Professional opportunities Inside engineering but also Customer services, programmes or procurement.
Required skills
As the successful candidate you will be able to demonstrate some or all of the following skills and competencies:
· Degree in Aeronautical engineering / aircraft design / Avionics (or equivalent)
· Automatic control of system / Control feedback loop
· Control simulation tools : Matlab, Simulink, …
· Flight physic and dynamics. Aircraft control and stability
· Aircraft flight control systems and equipment
· Communication skills (partnering with external entities such as labs, other airbus divisions, other EY teams)
· Ability to convince, justify and influence / ability to deal with difficult stakeholders
· Curiosity / willingness to learn
· Autonomy
· A negotiation level of English is required
· An advanced level of French is required
