Description of the job

A vacancy for an Engine performance Engineer (m/f) has arisen within Airbus Toulouse. The successful applicant will join the Engine Performance department.

Within the Engine Performance Research & Development department you will conduct and manage engine performance technical activities for future engine installation studies. You will mainly work on new engine preliminary designs, performance evaluations, modelling and optimisation capabilities, from the early development phases up to the programme launch. These activities are conducted in direct cooperation with the AIRBUS Research & Technology organisation, the Engine & Nacelle manufacturers and the other Airbus design office disciplines which include Future Projects, Power plant integration, aircraft performance, aerodynamics and acoustics.

Tasks & accountabilities

Your main tasks and responsibilities will include:

·  Contributing to the preliminary design of the new propulsion systems, the thermodynamic cycle evaluation, optimisation methods and capability development.
·  Assessing new propulsion system concepts with respect to their performance potential.
·  Contributing to the Power plant system performance optimisation and to aircraft optimisation studies which involve propulsion performance.
·  Performing critical evaluations of the engine manufacturers' proposals and actively participating in the definition of the specification requirements for new engine installations.
·  Developing engine performance models.
·  Contributing to the continuous improvements of engine performance modelling and engine performance evaluation methods & tools.
·  Supporting the environmental/emissions studies.
·  On a temporary basis, contributing to engine performance activities on development programmes (development of performance models, ground and flight test analyses, verification of performance guarantees, etc.).

This role will involve some (2-3 times a year) travel for business and as such you must be able to travel accordingly.

Required skills

As the successful candidate you will be able to demonstrate some or all of the following skills and competencies:

·  Educated to a 5-year degree (or equivalent) specializing in aeronautical or mechanical engineering
·  Engine performance experience is required
·  Engine performance modelling experience is desirable
·  Background in aeronautics in different disciplines
·  Knowledge of programming (Matlab, Fortran and Proosis)
·  Thermo-dynamics knowledge is required
·  Communication skills
·  Creativity, innovation and pro activity to propose new solutions
·  Ability to work in a complex organization and to build network
·  A negotiation level of English is required
·  An advanced level of French would be appreciated or willingness to learn French.

This role has been graded Position II.
