What if YOU start your journey with US!

As part of a school curriculum in initial training , you are looking for a mandatory internship or integrated into a gap year that will allow you to validate your studies. The internship duration is 4 to 6 months maximum.

We offer you to work in a world-leading company which is at the heart of a digital transformation, at the cutting edge of research and innovation.

We are looking for an optical communications system intern (m/f) who will be joining us at Airbus site in Toulouse (Palays)

This internship is to be filled from 06 april 2020 (keep in mind that hiring process takes about 4 months, from the validation of Job Requisition) (the dates are subject to a certain flexibility, depending on applicant cursus).

You will be joining the « Optical communications systems » team at Airbus Defence and Space, which is in charge of the development of future telecommunications systems characterized by high data rates. The main applications are the optical feeder (for GEO and LEO satellites) and inter-satellite links ISL (especially for future LEO constellations). The optical team based in Toulouse strongly believes that the optical communications will be a game changer for future communications systems.

Optical communications design requires a perfect understanding of the laser behaviour in relation to the environment: the turbulence and the presence of clouds play an important role for the link establishment.

The intern will be integrated in the optical communication team: he will be in charge of the system definition (link design and validation) for feasibility assessment of an optical LEO constellation. In particular, his work will deal with all the aspects of the end-to-end system: user, space and ground segment. A particular attention will be payed to the design of the optical feeder link and the related optical ground network.

·  Tasks and Responsibilities :

You will be working under the supervision of your manager who will help you identify your professional objectives and support you in the development of your skills.

Your main activities will include:

·  Assessment of user traffic data
·  Definition of the constellation system specifications
·  System requirements
·  Constellation dynamics and its relation with the ground network definition
·  Full optical and hybrid configurations
·  Trade-off and preliminary system design of the optical inter-satellite link
·  Link budget definition and constraints
·  Trade-off and preliminary system design of the optical feeder link
·  Link budget and its time variation (static and dynamic link budget)
·  Concepts of operations (modulation, coding, interleaver, transmission scheme)

Estimating the impact on the ground network definition (number of stations, location, number of telescopes, etc.)
