Description of the job

A vacancy for an Electrical Hybrid Propulsion - Power Electronics for Energy Storage (m/f) has arisen within Airbus to be based at the Toulouse site in France. The successful applicant will join the EYNE3 department.

The electrical propulsion project is an ambitious research and technology challenge which consists in developing and validating the electrical propulsion technologies and architecture principles for aircraft. The test platform will be erected at Ottobrun close to Munich.
All Airbus Business Units are involved in this collaborative project. Three low, medium and high power platforms are defined starting from about 100kW for small aircraft up to more than 1MW for large aircraft.

The proposed position is a good opportunity for the jobholder to develop electrical technology skills, project management and partnership management.
You will operate in a transnational context on a strategic and innovative subject for Airbus.
The job objective is, within the high power battery system WP, to technically lead the power electronics sub-WP.

Tasks & accountabilities

As the successful candidate, your main activities will include:

·  Defining the power electronics performances with the battery and electrical network specialists
·  Defining the power electronics installation on the various platforms with the aircraft architects
·  Preparing power electronics architecture and technology trades
·  Writing power electronics specifications for partners
·  Comparing partner proposals for the selection
·  Following up power electronics development with the selected partners
·  Defining and following up power electronics validation and verification plans
·  Leading integration on various platform with the test team

This role will involve frequent travel for business and as such you must be able to travel accordingly.

Required skills

As the successful candidate, you will be able to demonstrate some or all of the following skills and competencies:

·  Educated to an Engineering degree level (or equivalent) in a power electronic discipline.
·  Initial experience specialising in power electronic is necessary
·  An electrical/power electronics specialist with multi-disciplines skills, in order to define the best solution at aircraft level
·  In contact with several potential battery cell manufacturers and integrators, in order to identify key partners (ambitious power and energy density targets are expected).
·  Knowledge of Matlab/Simulink/Saber
·  Team player with good communication and negotiation skills
·  An autonomous approach is essential
·  Innovative spirit, willing to work on R&D
·  English level: advanced
·  French level would be a plus
