Description of the job

A vacancy for an Auto Flight System Designer (m/f) has arisen within Airbus in Toulouse. You will join the Auto Flight System team.
In the Aircraft Control domain, the Auto Flight System team is in charge to define the functions to fly the aircraft in an automatic mode towards always safer and more autonomous aircraft.

Your job includes the understanding and the definition of the top-level objectives of a given auto flight system function and the definition and the validation of the function.
In the Auto Flight System team, you will be acting under the supervision of a Program team leader, who is responsible for the project management aspects of the activity and for the overall technical consistency at Product level.

Your end customers will be Airbus Aircraft Programs.
Internal or external suppliers will provide you with the software resulting from your Auto Flight System specification. Airbus internal laboratory will test your system. Airbus Flight test pilots will evaluate your system in simulators and in flight. Your system will be put in service in the Airbus fleets around the world.

Tasks & accountabilities

Your main tasks and responsibilities will include:

·  Defining top-level objectives and requirements of new or improved functions, through functional and operational spécifications,
·  Designing new functions and evolutions of the Auto Flight System, according to the Airbus Program objectives and requirements,
·  Defining the interfaces with the associated systems and functions, e.g. Flight Control, Navigation / Surveillance / Display / Warnings / Engines ...,
·  Elaborating associated high-level specifications and detailed Spécifications,
·  Contributing to the Safety-related activities,
·  Contributing to the Verification and Validation related activities,
·  Contributing to the Certification means of compliance dossier preparation,
·  Providing support on in-service events, to MAP, FAL and Customer Service.

This role may involve some travel for business (at most 3 times / year) in France and Europe. You must be able to travel accordingly.

Required skills

You will have the following skills and experience:

·  Educated with a 5 year-Degree in Engineering specialized in system engineering,
·  Knowledge in one of the following fields would be a strong asset: Aircraft System Design and Specification, System automation, Aircraft flight control, Aircraft operations,
·  Complex algorithms understanding and management abilities,
·  Analytical and synthetic skills,
·  Team spirit,
·  Creativity,
·  An advanced level in English is required,
·  An advanced level in French or willingness to learn would be a plus.
