Description of the job

A vacancy for an Applied Cognitive Ergonomics – Experienced Human Factors designer has arisen within Airbus to be based on the Toulouse site in France.

As an applied cognitive ergonomics specialist, you apply your deep understanding and experience of Human Factors principles, practices and regulations to the design and evaluation of innovative human-centered on-board solutions, ensuring a safe and efficient operation of in-service and future Airbus Aircraft.

Your key role, within aircraft systems design integrated teams, is to put the pilot/maintainer at the center of the design, and ensure the efficient and effective consideration of Human Factors' standpoint. You get to spend your days in an inspiring environment full of amazing highly knowledgeable and inventive people!

You're passionate about bringing Human Factors/ Cognitive Ergonomics' added value to critical & complex functions, technologies and operations. Explaining, justifying and defending Human Factors position is a challenge you enjoy.

Moved by a strong innovation spirit, you've already proven during your previous experience your ability to initiate, lead, develop and implement innovative solutions on safety critical functions.
Keen to always improve existing products, you're familiar with processing user's feedback and other relevant data to propose evolutions.

Tasks & accountabilities

The job main challenges are:

·  Stay Customer/User and Safety focused
·  Keep a critical view on in development solutions. Manage conflicting recommendations.
·  Master technical aspects
·  Clearly explain HF goals and recommendations (pedagogical role with designers and other specialists involved)
·  Speak up when required
·  Act efficiently as a pragmatic and professional mediator between pilots and designers (technical & operational language)
·  Synthetize method, results and recommendations in comprehensive Technical notes
·  Stay aware of all new technologies and evolutions of HF discipline and propose evolutions/ innovations
·  Involve other Human factors' disciplines as required
·  Be a Human Factors' discipline ambassador inside and outside Airbus
·  Work in multi-cultural and multi-discipline teams

Required skills

As the successful candidate you will be able to demonstrate some or all of the following skills and competencies:

·  Educated to master level (or equivalent) in Human Factors Psychology/Cognitive Ergonomics.
·  Significant experience (more than 3 years) in Human Factors Psychology/Cognitive Ergonomics applied to design of safety critical functions
·  Specific knowledge of human behavior (perception, understanding, problem solving and other cognitive aspects) & characteristics (impact of fatigue, stress, experience, competence, motivation, personality …)
·  Specific knowledge of adequate Human Factors methods to be applied in respect of usability and ecological interface design principles.
·  Complementary skills in Physical ergonomics or Linguistics are a plus.
·  Strong Interest in Aircraft systems and architecture as well as in Aircraft operations & user's tasks is a must. (Experience in aeronautical field is a significant plus)
·  Capability and willingness to work efficiently within an aircraft function / system design team, understanding and defining user's needs, operational and technical constraints.
·  Ability to lead and manage projects (schedule, budgets, stakeholders' management) with strong time and quality pressure.
·  Ability to learn and work easily on different subjects
·  Natural leadership and strong team spirit
·  Languages: English: advanced level required. French Intermediate level is a significant plus.
·  Teamwork and collaboration in a multidiscipline/multicultural environment
·  Critical thinking
·  Ability to speak up, justify and defend a position.
