Description of the job

A vacancy for an AIT Mechanical Engineer (m/f) has arisen within Airbus Defence and Space in Toulouse. You will join the AIT Instruments team.
Within the AIT team for an instrument and in collaboration with the project's mechanical engineers and AIT managers, within the Mechanical Engineering AIT team, you will perform engineering, process planning, integration and opto-mechanical validation activities for a sub-assembly and for an instrument.

Tasks & accountabilities

In this context, you will be in charge of the following activities:

·  Steering mechanical engineering, optical-mechanical and mechanism activities:

¤ In collaboration with the project architects, the AIT optical engineer and the Design Office, performing the engineering tasks for assembly sequences and measurements and providing AIT support for engineering of the instrument,
¤ Engineering mechanical tools for assembly and alignment (MGSE),
¤ Preparing procedures and mechanical operations,
¤ Developing and following up on the manufacturing, process planning and functional validation of the MGSE,
¤ Preparing the sub-assemblies (bonding or assembling DFMs, thermal engineering and various supports),
¤ Using precision measurement tools: theodolites, laser trackers, 3D measurement machines,
¤ Taking part in installing optics in their mechanical assembly,
¤ Taking part in post-integration optical measurements,
¤ Taking part in installing mechanical equipment, routing wiring and installing parts for thermal protection
¤ Providing optics operators with mechanical engineering support,
¤ Preparing the transportation,

·  Taking part in mechanical and thermal qualification tests that could take place in testing centre such as: INTESPACE, CSL, IABG, etc.,
·  Implementing and following up on the existing procedures based on the first two models, updating the procedures after the activities, capitalising on experience and obtaining feedback and participating with implementing a sharing process between the project and AIT to facilitate the sharing of information on recurring models.

This position will require occasional travel for business (at least one week once a year in Europe), and as such, you must be able to travel accordingly.

Required skills

As the successful candidate, you will be able to demonstrate some of the following skills and experience:

·  Engineering degree (or university equivalent), ideally in Mechanical Engineering,
·  Initial experience in mechanical engineering and ideally in AIT,
·  Solid knowledge of mechanical assemblies,
·  Knowledge of the space domain would be a plus,
·  Good interpersonal skills and the ability to quickly adapt to AIT's modes of operation,
·  Team spirit, very autonomous approach and the ability to summarise,
·  Good writing skills,
·  Advanced level of English and French.
