The department

The HR Analytics team of Ahold, with subsidiaries such as Albert Heijn, Etos, Gall & Gall, has been developing models and tools to answer business questions that help us to better understand the performance of stores and the characteristics of the workforce. The HR analytics team is currently looking for an aspiring data scientist who would like to gain hands on experience in a business environment to develop his/her data science skills.

The job

The trainee will contribute to:

·  collecting, cleaning and merging data from different sources and pertaining to practical business questions,
·  contributing to and/or performing statistical analyses of current analytics projects either by solving statistical problems or by enhancing existing solutions,
·  learning state of the art machine learning algorithms that can either help solve business questions or just for fun,
·  presenting the results of such projects to a non-expert audience.

Requirements

·  Enrolled in one of the matching studies or equivalent experience in a quantitative field (computer science, applied mathematics, engineering, artificial intelligence, applied statistics, bioinformatics, etc. )
·  Registered within a dutch university
·  Good knowledge of R and/or Python
·  Basic knowledge of SQL
·  Working knowledge of common machine learning methods
·  Ability to perform basic descriptive statistical/graphical analyses on large datasets
·  Good verbal and written communication in English
