Junior Software Developer
- Travaux / Chantiers Swisslog offer an engineering environment which enables distributors and suppliers to meet their automated logistical needs through the provision of bespoke and propriety branded real-time solutions. My achievements included the design, implementation, deployment (coding) and testing (scripting) of an extension to an existing bespoke system for one client. I discussed the need for a radically new implementation with my team leaders and produced design and implementation technical specifications. I worked on the full product life-cycle up to and including extensive in-house testing by liaising with my team members at other offices and on-site testing using quality assurance methodologies.
I was occasionally involved in 3rd line support of this system and was able to fix two major design flaws in the existing implementation when it failed. One of these had cost my client in excess of £1.5 million over the 42 hour period that the support engineers had been unable to analyse the fault. Being a junior engineer and not expected to be on support call, I was seconded immediately upon my arrival at the office to analyse and fix this fault. I thoroughly tested (in-house) and implemented my amended design within 4 hours, thereby minimising my client's losses to a further £140,000. I also fixed bugs in user-interfaces and configured propriety branded applications attached to existing systems.
