IoT Embedded Software Engineer

Job Summary:
Design of products with high performance and rich user experience is a key function in the innovation of connected product solutions development at SKY, Safran Cabin. The embedded software engineer owns the IoT software development process that covers boot loaders, device drivers, firmware, wireless stack code, OTA (Over-The-Air) code, secured boot/firmware, and embedded applications development for IoT products. Is responsible for being hands on with the IoT protocols, wireless stack development, requirements, design, coding and testing for high quality products.

Is responsible for Cabin Research and Technology activities that related to Connected Products and full stack development activities. The responsibilities include dream the future, ideation, new technology implementation, and R&T project execution up to TRL6 and beyond as needed. Fosters innovation and creativity. Manages R&T software projects to ensure they meet planned TRL objectives within planned schedules.

As a member of the SKY R&T team, he/she supports in achieving department goals and the overall business goals of the branch as per annual performance objectives.

Summary of Duties:

·  • Work with SKY research team to develop embedded IoT prototypes
·  • Work with Safran research team to co-develop applications with focus on sensors & core firmware modules
·  • Drive R&T activities that result in IoT software applications, systems, services and/or solutions.
·  • Work with AI/ML developers to integrate ML algorithms in to software design
·  • Work with partners/universities/suppliers to develop embedded IoT software applications
·  • Utilize electrical test equipment including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and protocol analyzers
·  • Utilize firmware test equipment including debuggers, emulators, and programmers
·  • Develop communication protocols and hardware (Ethernet/802.11/802.15/BLE/RS485/MODBUS/SPI, etc.)
·  • Be responsible for the development and validation of product firmware, bootloaders and test code.
·  • Conduct hardware testing and debugging for robustness and general reliability
·  • Maintain, build out new features, and iterate on existing features of current products using CI/CD DevOps process
·  • Work with a multidisciplinary team of engineers to deliver reliable Connected Products on time and on budget.
·  • Develop OTA technologies to update SW onto distributed customer-premise devices
·  • Designs and develops IoT edge software modules that interacts with sensors, wireless transmission devices.
·  • Designs and develops security components required to communicate device to device & device to cloud.
·  • Develops and tests edge software to collect data from products, process and transmit to cloud

Qualifications:
Education: BS Degree in Electronics or Computer Engineering / Science from a recognized institute
Experience:

·  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in the innovation, design and the development of embedded software products and technologies with prior experience in research & products companies.
·  • Experience in developing high performance scalable and automated web application / solutions Other Skills:

·  • Hands-on experience in one or more of the following programming languages: Python, C/C++, and Java Script
·  • Experience in one or more specific IoT/embedded/M2M industry (i.e. industrial IoT applications, home automation, business automation, asset tracking, smart city, etc.)
·  • Experience in IoT messaging protocols including MQTT, CoAP, JSON objects, Web Sockets, and Notification engines, and preferably implementation experience in AWS IoT services (or similar)
·  • Experience in performing unit testing, system integration testing, performance testing, smoke testing, load testing and user acceptance testing
·  • Hands-on experience on DSP/GPU/Microprocessors such as STM32 SoC, Atmel, TI, NXP, Intel, AVR, Cortex-M, Raspberry Pi /Arduino and NVidia
·  • Development experience in Linux kernel based IoT Operating systems (Yocto, Ubuntu, Android Things) and emerging RTOS/HLOS platforms (FreeRTOS, Fuchsia)
·  • Experience in integrating AI/ML algorithms and frameworks such as TensorFlow and PyTorch
·  • Experience in network communication technologies such as 802.11.x, 802.15.4, LoRa, Cellular and BLE
·  • Experience in designing SecureBoot and layered security standards (e.g. FIPS 140-2, TLS, PKI, Root of Trust etc.)
