The G Band Software Engineering Practice Lead is based within the Digital job family

The Software Engineering Practice lead is responsible for owning, leading, and driving software engineering practices across all of Vodafone’s digital experience delivery teams. This role is responsible for providing expert knowledge of prototype creation, module and solution design and development using agile methodologies, and continuous testing to enable target business capabilities / user journeys. This role will be required to create, lead, manage, and mentor a practice of Software Engineers across the delivery organization, ensuring the development and maintenance of highly skilled and motivated practice members. You will also expected to be a DevOps team member, spending 30-50% of the time on practice activities.

Your responsibilities will include:

Leads a community of Software Engineers that are working in multiple DevOps Teams, working with Digital Experience Engineering to provide workforce plans for recruitment and development.

Organises interactions between the members of the Practice to nurture best practice and encourage knowledge- & tool-sharing

·
Act as supporting leader, rather than line manager, aiming at maturing the organisation readiness, vs. controlling the work

·
Provides guidance and harmonization of best-practices on agile methodologies and practices to ensure smooth communication and collaboration

·
Acts as a mentor for the Specialist resources in their Practice, helping them grow in expertise and experience new areas

·
Agile and lean programming and development of software systems in Web-scale environments

·
Backlog item estimation

·
Software Design and architectures

·
Architectural element testing e.g. APIs

·
Unit, integration, smoke and static code analysis testing

·
Code standards and reviews

·
Automated testing and tools e.g. Selenium

·
Software incident and problem management

·
Continuous integration and continuous delivery methodologies and tools

·
Competent working with cloud-native architectures, including public cloud PaaS / IaaS, micro-services architectures, APIs, Open Source

·
Expertise in multiple programming and markup languages, such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Java, Ruby, SQL, XML, JSON, YAML, and Python, and paradigms such as object-oriented-, even-driven-, procedural-, functional-, and declarative programming

·
Expertise in multiple relational and non-relational databases (Oracle, My Sql, Hadoop Spark/Storm, Cassandra)

·
Extremely valued as a thought partner across all teams and viewed as an invaluable role model for peers

Profil recherché

Qualifications :

The ideal candidate for this role will have:

· 
Master’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or other related field

· 
Seven or more years of work experience in programming and /or systems analysis applying agile frameworks

· 
At least three years of software engineering leadership responsibilities in large delivery organizations

· 
Experience working in cloud-native environments

· 
Professional experience and knowledge of the Telecommunications industry preferred

· 
Certified Scrum Developer (CSD) preferred

The base location for this role is Vodacom Midrand
