Tractebel is one of Europe’s major engineering consulting firm, with over 150 years of expertise and strong track record in assessing, planning and implementing energy and infrastructure projects at the level of regions and cities.
Poste et missions:
The Smart Energy Consultant conducts the delivery of techno-economic or strategic analyses and takes a systemic view in analysing the multidisciplinary and complex nature of energy transition challenges in terms of technologies, applications and stakeholders.
He/she will particularly focus on distributed energy applications, like Electric Vehicles, Distributed Generation, Demand Response, Storage.
Being able to work out the synergies between different energy vectors (electricity, heat, cold, hydrogen) is a plus for the position to fulfil.
In good intelligence with all the stakeholders, together with project teammates, he/she shall provide consulting services in the following domains:
- ENERGY POLICY, MARKET DESIGN AND REGULATION
o Analyses evolutions of market design and energy policies on different geographies and regulatory context ;
o Advises clients on regulatory and policy options and on associated impacts from a private actor or societal perspective.
- TECHNO-ECONOMIC ASSESSMENT & ENERGY ECONOMICS
o Carries out simulation-based techno-economic assessment of specific applications (e.g. local energy communities, microgrids, prosumers);
o Defines masterplans/roadmaps to support clients (public authorities, utilities, industrials) in their transition to a more efficient and sustainable energy use;
o Contributes to the specification of simulation, optimization and data analytics tools to sustain the department ability to provide innovative energy system analytics.
- STRATEGIC AND PROSPECTIVE STUDIES & EMERGING BUSINESS MODELS
o Analyses evolutions in the energy sector, particularly linked to “Smart Energy” applications (Smart Grids; Micro-grids; Demand Response; Storage; Smart EV charging...): positioning of actors, competitive landscape and new business models; country contexts and market potential assessment; new applications and technologies.
o Works out the economic analysis of potential strategic moves, commitment files or transactions across the whole value chain and sheds light on the market risks (commodity, technological, operative, strategic) they bear;
Profil:
- You have a university degree in economics, power system engineering or business administration.
- You are fluent in English, any other language is a plus;
- A PhD is a plus;
- Specific expertise on energy regulation and policy is an asset
- You have a strong interest to develop expertise in the regulatory and policy domains of energy transition and in carrying out strategic assessments (e.g. for institutional clients like the European Commission) to come up with roadmaps, possible scenarios and policy recommendations
- You have good analytical skills, in order to frame and structure analysis leveraging from multiple sources and interacting with several stakeholders.
- You are interested in working on quantitative issues with simulation models, preferably in the energy business, in an international environment
- You have strong communication skills; you are able to synthesize a complex matter and come up with key important messages.
- You have a good team spirit; you comfortably work in cross-functional and multi-cultural organizations; you can work under time pressure;
- You are a fast learner, keen to tread new grounds and ready to dive into uncharted waters
