The Role
Tesla is seeking a highly motivated and skilled prototype machinist with toolmaking capabilities to work closely with mechanical and process engineers, production managers, maintenance technicians and production associates to support their tooling and production needs.
Responsibilities
· Manual and CNC machining on mills and lathes
· Operates typical manual machines including but not limited to mills, lathes, drill presses, surface grinders, grinders, sanders, and saws
· Make or modify parts and assemblies applying knowledge of mechanics, mathematics, layout and machining procedures
· Work closely with managers, engineers, and technicians to produce a wide variety of components and assemblies
· Perform equipment maintenance and repair
· Help ensure a safe working environment
· General shop responsibilities
Desired profile
Requirements
· 5 years minimum experience as a prototype machinist/toolmaker
· 5 years minimum experience as a manual machinist
· 3 years minimum experience programming ProtoTRAK CNC mills and lathes
· Ability to machine tight tolerance components and assemblies
· Able to complete jobs from set up to inspection
· Experience in a wide range of materials from hardened tool steels to plastics (i.e. tool steel, stainless steel, steel, aluminum, plastics, copper, and brass)
· Works with minimal supervision and detailed drawings - must be able to interpret verbal or written instructions
· Experience in Tool and Die, Jig and Fixture Design and Build , Welding and Fabrication, Sheet Metal, and the capabilities to use Drafting Software is a plus
