The Role

The Tesla START Instructor position requires someone with exceptional ability to assess needs, develop & deliver learning solutions for a wide range of skills, abilities, and experiences, develop and maintain strong partnerships with internal and external partners. Individuals must be exceptional classroom facilitators, creative, proactive, organized, flexible, results-oriented, and have a passion for teaching others about electric vehicles. Must have outstanding communication, people management, and organizational skills while demonstrating a positive and professional demeanor. The START Instructor is responsible for managing the day-to-day relationship with our local academic partners, all aspects of the START academic experience, and ensuring START participants are effectively equipped and managed to take their place as Service Technicians in a Tesla Service Center.

Responsibilities

·  Partner withboth college & START faculty to identify, recruit, onboard, and train START program participants.
·  Manage 10-15 START participants with the highest level of professionalism to prepare them to take on full-time roles in a Tesla Service Center.
·  Develop site-specific learning plans to ensure requirements of both Tesla and academic partners are met for all employees.
·  Develop and deliver technical learning solutions equipping service employees to perform roles safely and to Tesla standards.
·  Teach and facilitate participant learning of all START curriculum with an eye for continuous process improvement.
·  Provide ongoing coaching and support to START participants, alumni, and recruits to ensure the Tesla Service mindset is modeled and effectively applied across the program.
·  Provide service specific training to Tesla Motors’ Service staff on electric vehicles equipped with complex automotive/electromechanical systems (powertrain, passive restraint system, steering/suspension/brakes, thermal management). Provide specific & general training on high voltage DC systems, as required.
·  Serve as functioning member of the Tesla Academy Service Learning & Development team.
·  Partner with Service Coaches tovalidate skill and expertise of service employees.
·  Maintain expert knowledge of: methods, techniques, parts, tools, and materials used in the maintenance and repair of vehicles.
·  Maintain expert knowledge of problem solving and customer experience as applied within the Tesla Service environment.
·  Develop new START curriculum in close consultation with Tesla Academy, Service, FTS, and Service Engineering.
·  Ensure that programs and processes are developed, assessed, communicated, and administered in compliance with Tesla’s objectives.
·  Manage the operations of the START location including, but not limited to: inventory vehicle maintenance and tooling/equipment maintenance, location set-up, scheduling, communications, safety, etc..

Desired profile

Requirements

·  Degree or Certificate from a University program in Automotive Technology orthe equivalent in experience and evidence of exceptional ability
·  Demonstrated ability to collaborate and serve as partner to academic institutions.
·  Demonstrated ability to both teach and coach as a means to facilitate others’ learning.
·  Teaching, people management, and Tesla Technician experiencestrongly preferred.
·  Ability to work remotely, with little day-to-day supervision.
·  Demonstrated ability to lead complex problem-solving activities and initiatives.
·  Strong facilitation and interpersonal communication skills required.
·  Strong automotive system repair knowledge and training experience.
·  Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and electrical schematics.
·  Ability to be proactive, flexible, confident, professional, self-motivated and self-directed in a fast-paced environment.
·  Experience with environmental and safety requirements a plus.
·  Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and demonstrated confidence and professionalism in working in a customer-facing role.
·  Highly skilled with common workplace and database software (Powerpoint, Excel, Word, Outlook)
·  Attention to detail a must.
·  Must have a valid Driver’s License.
