The Role

The EHS (Environment, Health, and Safety) Specialist is responsible, at a local level, for technical work in a wide range of EHS disciplines. The EHS Specialist will support day-to-day operations with managing health and safety processes within approximately 3-5 locations, including but not limited to: conducting and facilitating safety training, incident and emergency response, performing risk assessments and safety compliance audits, facilitating and participating in project safety planning and safety case management. The Specialist will play a key role in the incident reporting and analysis process and work closely with Supervisors and associates to develop and implement corrective actions preventing reoccurrence. They will also work with Supervisors to implement best practices for a safety management system. This position is regionally-based from a local Energy Products operations center and will involve frequent day travel, and occasionally overnight travel, up to 20%. **The position could also be based out of San Diego.

The overall charter is achieving compliance within the company’s and regulatory agencies’ standards in EHS. The candidate must work well on both self-initiated projects and those driven by concerns and issues reported by employees. The ideal candidate takes pride in their analytical abilities, organizational skills and attention to detail; as well as appreciates an environment where superior work is encouraged, noticed and rewarded.

Responsibilities

·  Support day-to-day EHS operations and process management
·  Practice and maintain strong communication between all organizations within field Energy Sales and Operations departments
·  Lead and provide support to Supervisors and management, including attending all factory-wide EHS meetings and providing feedback to the district and regional team on safety
·  Assist with the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of EHS management system processes
·  Possess the desire and ability to learn, as well as demonstrate personal responsibility
·  Audit to ensure compliance with company, local, state and federal environmental, health, and safety regulations
·  Lead incident analyses to determine root cause(s), prevention, and corrective measures
·  Design safe work spaces and create policies for employees to follow that minimize job-related hazards
·  Provide local support for EHS programs such as LOTO, Hazard Communication, Emergency Response, Fall Protection, Respiratory Protection, Hearing Conservation, etc.
·  Develop and conduct education and training for processes required within supported departments

Desired profile

Requirements

·  2+ years of experience within a health and safety role is required
·  Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Safety, Ergonomics, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, or Safety-related discipline preferred; Or, an additional 2+ years of demonstrated ability with implementing a EHS program at a local level
·  Certifications – CHST certification or higher highly preferred
·  Strong knowledge of local, state and federal regulatory agencies and requirements
·  Practical, hands-on experience with the following highly preferred:
·  LOTO, machine guarding, ergonomics (prefer some experience with fundamental programs)
·  Providing education / training
·  Risk assessment / JSA
·  Incident analysis
·  Strong ability to influence and communicate effectively with Supervisors and Associates highly preferred
·  Strong experience with training and education highly preferred
·  Ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines highly preferred
·  Well organized with meticulous attention to detail; and excellent written and verbal communication skills highly preferred
·  Mastery of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
·  Excellent driving record and able to pass a thorough background screen
