Job Overview and Responsibilities

Health, Safety, Security, & Environmental (HSSE) Responsibilities

·  Perform HSSE-related activities in support of site HSSE goals. Assist in the communication of these goals and activities to other employees.
·  Strict adherence to Solvay Life Saving Rules (SLSRs) and Life Critical Procedures.
·  Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) properly and as required for the task being performed. Minimum PPE is hard hat, safety glasses, steel toed shoes, long-sleeved shirt and company provided uniforms.
·  Perform tasks and audits to assure Housekeeping Standards and Work Place Organization (5S) Objectives are met.
·  Actively participate in discussions related to HSSE including but not limited to housekeeping inspections, behavioral observations, risk assessments, critical task analysis, and incident investigations.
·  Complete computer-based training on schedule and attend regular monthly and toolbox safety meetings.
·  Support Solvay One Planet Goals and Actions.
·  Support fellow employees and management in our effort to continuously improve Site HSSE Performance, including suggestions for mitigating risk and employee exposure to the potential for injury.
·  Follow all plant HSSE policies and procedures. Provide feedback to other employees to reinforce good safety behaviors/activities and to improve deficiencies. 

Key Job Responsibilities 

·  Safely operate the process and auxiliary systems of the Alumina Production Unit in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures, Work Instructions, and Special Instructions. The Alumina DCS-related activities are out-of-scope.
·  Perform all aspects of Nocolok® inventory, production, and quality operations with minimal supervision while meeting HSE, quality, schedule, and business
·  requirements. Work in accordance with Standardized Operating Procedures, Work
·  Instructions, Special Instructions, and Test Protocols.
·  Manage production quality within customer/manufacturing specifications, maximizing Right-First-Time production performance. Run unit operations at their Maximum Demonstrated Capacity (MDC) - unless instructed otherwise – and without jeopardizing HSE or quality. Ensure production rates/levels are maintained and develop plan of action when constraints arise to ensure deadlines are met.
·  Endeavor to continuously-improve Standard Operating Procedures, Work Instructions, Special Instructions, and Test Protocols.
·  Perform Nocolok® finished product quality testing. Analysis includes but is not limited to: density, viscosity, and moisture content. Record product characteristic in the ERP system for the purposes of generating Certificates of Analysis (CoA).
·  Run, monitor, and adjust Alumina equipment and processes operated manually in the field with an operator in the Alumina Control Room as required.
·  Run, monitor, and adjust Nocolok® equipment and processes to ensure product quality – including product attributes, packaging, and shipment preparation – conforms to specification and customer expectations.
·  Package product into various types and sizes of containers and sample product as required. 
·  Load, unload, and sample bulk trucks/rail cars.
·  Inventory product silos and tanks.
·  Monitor all Nocolok® inventories and keep sufficient supplies in order to sustain output.
·  Perform minor maintenance activities to support reliable equipment operations.
·  Complete training required to operate any area of the plant as assigned and demonstrate competency in these key responsibilities.
·  Operate computer software to report and receive information in all forms (including electronic) regarding unit status, operational problems, quality defects, production requirements, and maintenance information.
·  Seek and consult with Solvay technical/product experts as necessary to resolve any production, quality, or equipment reliability concerns. 

Education and Experience

·  High school diploma or GED required.
·  2-year college degree in related field preferred.
·  Minimum of 3 years' experience in chemical manufacturing or an operator's certificate from an accredited program.

Skills

·  Proficient in computer use and electronic communications. Proficient with Microsoft Office software (MS Word, Excel), SAP, email (Gmail), Google Applications, etc.
·  Capable of writing production and productivity summaries on a daily/weekly/monthly basis.
·  Works independently, self-starter, results-oriented, pro-active, & detailed-oriented.
·  Customer orientation. Expected to efficiently & effectively operate the facility with the best interest of the customer in mind.
·  Algebra proficiency plus a working knowledge of the metric systems and unit conversion.
·  Must possess excellent leadership, communications, and people skills.
·  Familiarity/experience with automotive quality systems standard considered a plus.

Additional Information

Physical Requirements

·  Climb stairs and ladders to access all areas of the plant including roofs and tank tops, multiple times each shift. For example, climb as many as (140) steps 1 – 3 times in a shift and climb permanent ladders up to 70 ft.
·  Work at elevations up to 100 feet as required. Ability to use fall protection
·  Ability to climb stairs (over 50 steps) and climb permanent ladders up to 70 ft
·  Wear personal protective equipment such as respirator, hardhat, safety shoes, safety glasses, goggles, face shield, chemical resistant clothing, hearing protection, etc.
·  Use hand tools such as wrenches, hammers, pliers, screwdrivers, etc. that are necessary for minor maintenance repairs
·  View computer and television monitors and hear audible alarms
·  Make adjustments to computer and to change equipment settings.
·  Record data on paper and electronic log sheets
·  Drive lift trucks
·  Manually handle Finished Product drums weighing up to 150 lbs as required. For example, occasionally will need to roll up to (30) 150-lb. drums in an 8-hr shift.
·  Ability to move Raw Material drums that could weigh up to 600 lbs with drum cart
·  Work in confined spaces as requested.
·  Manipulate manual valves.
·  Ability to take silo inventories and read a tape measure.
·  Regularly lift 20 kg pails as required, and lift up to 50 lbs occasionally
·  Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time (4 – 8 hours)
·  Climb stairs – as many as 140 steps 1 to 3 times in an 8-hour period.
·  Occasionally will need to roll up to 30, 150 lb. drums in 8 hours.
·  Ability to manipulate manual valves.
·  Work at high elevations of 85 to 100 ft. for approximately 30 minutes once a week.
·  Move and hook up hoses up to 4 inches in diameter and up to 25 feet long for loading or unloading materials to desired destinations
·  Sample finished product.
·  Work on the top of trucks and rail cars.
·  Able to raise arms above head to place sack on machine.
