Solvay is global leader in the supply and development of advance materials for high demanding applications in the Automotive and Aerospace industries. The Applications Engineering group is seeking a highly motivated technician to join its Wrexham team. Working within Solvay’s Research and Innovation group, the position offers the opportunity to help develop new material and process technology for the Aerospace industry.

Job Overview and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will need to:

·Comply with Solvay HSE standards, procedures and 5S guidelines

·Contribute to the continued development of HSE standard and procedures

·Plan and organise the manufacture of composite test panels

·Perform trials and experiments focussed at assessing a materials process ability

·Characterisecomposite materials

·Collect and document information and process data to perform basic data analysis

·Provide a summary either via reports or presentations of trials, experiments and test results
Work as part of a global department and in cross-functional teams

Education and Experience:

The successful candidate should have:

·  Practical experience with composite materials. In particular a basic understanding of laminate lay-up and manufacturing methods with the use of dry or pre-impregnated materials
·  A basic understanding of material characteristics and properties
·  Some familiarity with material characterisation in the form of microscopy

Must have Education:

·‘O’ levels / GCSE at ‘C’ or higher in sciences, math’s and English Language

·BTEC, National Diploma or HND.

Optional Education:

·Degree

Skills:

The successful candidate must have the following attributes and skills:

·Practical experience in the processing and manufacture of composite materials

·Demonstrate their ability to overcome obstacles and to work with limited supervision

·Express an interest in their daily tasks and a desire to continually develop and learn

·Excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to form new relationships

·Positive attitude

·Good time management skills

·Diligence and attention to detail

·MS office and google app skills
