Job Overview and Responsibilities

The position will have the responsibility of carrying out elemental analyses by Inductively coupled plasma (ICP) for research and application projects in mostly Polymer Additives and also Mining. This position has the responsibility to carry out a high throughput of sample preparation and analyses on a daily basis. While methods will be developed by a Sr. Scientist, the position requires a basic understanding of ICP in order to interpret results and suggest method improvements. The role also requires familiarity with all of the sample preparation methods including acid digestion and microwave digestion. The chemist will write well-documented reports and communicate clearly with project teams and scientists.

The role will require extensive interactions with research and innovation, and applications groups in order to understand innovation projects and prioritize the work accordingly. Similarly the position requires the ability to interact with other members of the analytical department to develop further expertise. 

Safety Responsibilities 

Understand and follow key Solvay safety policies and procedures for the site, including but not limited to the following: 

·  Emergency Response / Evacuation Guidelines
·  Visitor Safety Policy
·  Housekeeping
Demonstrate a commitment to safety
Attend monthly safety training
Know the location of first aid and emergency response equipment, chemicals, and chemical documentation.
Obtain equipment or process specific safety training as necessary according to the specific hazards
Other duties as assigned 

Education and Experience

·  A BS in Analytical Chemistry or related discipline (Chemistry, Biology, or Chemical Engineering) is required.
·  A minimum of one year experience in an analytical lab in an industrial setting is required. 
·  Prior experience in ICP and sample preparation for ICP is preferred.

·  The abilities to work well in technical workgroups, write well-documented reports, and communicate clearly are required.
