Application Support Analyst

Position Description

Reporting to the Application Service Leader, an Application Support Analyst is required to join the Application Support team on a challenging project.

The role include the following tasks :

- Become the Subject Matter Expert on key areas of a high profile engagement, including learning bespoke software such as Microsoft FAST and Elastic Search

- Triage second and third line support of Incidents, Problems & Service Requests assigned to the Application Team

- Engage with the client and end users, with communication on a day-to-day basis

- Working within SLA parameters in the provision of a high quality application support service, a solid understanding, and ability to work to ITIL standards

- Perform Impact Assessments in response to requests for enhancements and/or changes

- Responding to and acting on customer issues/requests and recognition of client priorities

- Attendance and chairing of both internal and external meetings as necessary

- Assisting in software deployments – some of which will require working at evenings or weekends- Ability to work flexibly between tasks and prioritise work appropriately

- Day to day monitoring of aspects of the application.

- Producing Reports and Management Information

Essential Skills

****Essentials Skills Required****

- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

- Enthusiastic individual willing to learn about all aspect of IT

- Analytical approach with good fault finding skills.

- Experience of working in a customer focused application support environment;

- Familiarity with basic Unix commands to allow basic examination of logs

- Understanding of support processes and experience of their implementation and usage in an application support scenario (preferably underpinned by an ITIL experience)

- Effective customer relationship, confident client facing and interpersonal skills

- SC clearance is essential. NPPV3 clearance will also be required. (NPPV3 can be applied for on the project)

- Willingness to apply for further vetting / clearance levels if required.

- Occasional evening and weekend work for support activities is required.

- Willingness to join an on call rota after sufficient training

- SC & NPPV3 Clearance is essential. (NPPV3 can be progressed by the project).

Desirable Skills

- Ability to quickly diagnose complex issues and resolve these with minimal support.

- Ability to proactively identify risks & issues, and develop appropriate mitigation plans.

- Knowledge of scripting, Bash, Powershell, Perl

- Experience of working in an application support role.

- Knowledge of service management methodologies (ITIL).

- Experience in using Remedy or similar call logging systems

- Any knowledge of the following technologies would be beneficial though not essential;

- Java/J2EE modules (including Spring framework)

- Elastic Search

- Weblogic

- Oracle stored procedures

- Open SSO, LDAP, Apache, Solaris, FTP, FAST, Tomcat, Loadrunner

Your future duties and responsibilities
You will be required to provide 2nd line support across a range of applications. You will be required to run various agreed business processes and jobs, and will provide proactive system monitoring as well as checking with the follow through of remedial actions. You will also be involved in impact assessment in response to requests for enhancement / change and respond to and act on customer issues/requests and recognition of client priorities.

You will be involved in the triage of second and third line support of Incidents, Problems & Service Requests assigned to the Application Team.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role
The ideal person for this must have strong problem solving and analytical skills. You will have proven application support skills with the ability to investigate problems and support junior team members when required. You will be proactive, and must have excellent customer facing skills. It is essential that you are able to liaise professionally with clients and other parties, and understand their issues.

From a technical standpoint you must have good knowledge of SQL and should have the ability to pick up new applications quickly. ITIL experience is desirable but is not essential.
Experience in programming and scripting in applicable technologies which may include shell scripting. perl, python/jython or java and an understanding of UNIX administration.
