Job Description

Siemens Industry Software N.V. (SISW, formerly known as LMS) is an engineering innovation company, with proven track record in the area of experimental, numerical and hybrid (mixed experimental-numerical) system modelling for noise, vibration, durability and dynamics, performing substantial in-house research on advanced methods and applications. SISW is part of the Siemens Software, a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services with seven million licensed seats and more than 71,000 customers worldwide. Headquartered in Plano, Texas, Siemens Software collaborates with companies to deliver open solutions, helping them make smarter decisions that result in better products. Function:

The software development engineer will be member of the team responsible for the design and development of new applications and the maintenance of existing applications in the area of Structural, Environmental and Durability Testing.

In Structural testing, a structure is subjected to a defined excitation, and the response is measured simultaneously. From these measurements, structural properties (such as resonance frequencies, damping and mode shapes) can be derived. The application you will build allows such tests on fairly simple setups (single excitation, few responses) but also on large structures –such as aircrafts- which require multiple excitations at several points, and measurement of hundreds of sensors in parallel.

In Environmental testing, a structure is submitted to a well defined vibration and/or acoustic load to verify its correct response in future real life. Those tests are crucial in the engineering of satellites and aircrafts, to validate structures before actual take-off. Critical in these applications is the quality of the control on the loading, using the measurements made on the structures to adapt the load applied to the structure.

In Durability testing, the fatigue life of products is determined. Fatigue life is the number of times you can repeat a loading sequence until failure. In Durability Acquisition, the loads are measured that will be used to do further analysis on. During road measurements data are acquired to determine typical loads that an object or component will undergo in its normal use. These measurements produce large sets of time data that needs to be processed further using statistical methods.

Your tasks will lie in the area of data acquisition, data processing and closed looped control algorithms.

Responsibilities:

· analysis, design, development, test and maintenance of the applications and their extensions

· Focus on highest possible data throughput performance and reliability, with minimal system load

· Integrate a wide variety of signal conditioning modules, and external data streams from the internal acquisition hardware supplier

· Guaranteed quality-of-service for data acquisition

· Specific focus on safety-related aspects: system cannot go out of control, emergency facilities are provided

· Focus on highest possible data throughput performance and reliability, with minimal system load

· Optimize design and development to make sure the application itself is no bottleneck in overall system performance

Profile:

· Educational Level: Degree in Informatics, Degree in Physics or Engineering Degree

· Experience:

·  Proven experience in design, analysis and development skills
·  Experience in mechanical control systems and algorithm development is an asset
·  Affinity with external data acquisition systems

· Specific technical competencies:

·  Expertise in software design and architecture
·  Proven skills in C++, or similar OO development methodology
·  Knowledgeable on Digital Signal Processing
·  Languages: good knowledge of English (both written and spoken)

· Specific personal competencies:

·  Analytical mind, solution oriented
·  Quality-awareness
·  Customer oriented attitude
·  High interest in ICT evolution (literature, …)
·  Team spirit and flexibility
·  Stress tolerant
·  Creative

Conditions:

Siemens Software offers, besides an attractive salary and benefits package, an internationally oriented and innovative high-tech environment. It is a fast growing, financially healthy company with a flat structure, which develops LMS simulation and testing solutions in an informal, flexible atmosphere. People working within the business unit appreciate the room for initiative and career development. LMS solutions are driven by innovation and therefore management fosters the creativity of its employees.
