As part of Siemens Mobility, the Rail Systems Division (RL) employs approximately 1000-1500 employees in Sacramento, CA and is part of the Siemens global Rail Systems Division

The RL product offerings include light rail vehicles, electric locomotives, diesel-electric locomotives, passenger coaches, and high speed trains. Core manufacturing processes include extensive carshell welding activities, bogie fabrication and assembly, electrical subassembly, finishing and paint, and final assembly.

Responsibilities:

The Industrial Engineer Supervisor Light Rail and Locomotives has the primary responsibility to ensure that production operations are ready to go at the scheduled start of production date with all required tools, templates, jigs, and fixtures utilizing lean methodologies and practical process knowledge with direct responsibility overseeing the Light Rail and Locomotive Industrial Engineering Team.

· Setting goals for performance and deadlines in ways that comply with company's plans and vision.

·Organizing workflow and ensuring that your team understand their duties or delegated tasks.

·Monitoring employee productivity and providing constructive feedback and coaching.

· Preparing standardized work instructions including proper tools, templates, and equipment.

· Driving your tasks and project plans including those of your team by guiding and leading.

· Providing critical process control guidance to safety, production, maintenance, and quality control to improve the dimensional accuracy and functional accuracy of our products.

· Ensuring that adequate time, space, and infrastructure is in place in place in anticipation for new project or product launch and taking the lead on major topics.

· Reviewing engineering drawings, 3D engineering models using Pro-E or PTC Creo to gain an understanding of manufacturing process requirements such as job sequence, workflow, and takt time.

· Able to design / source tools, templates, jigs, and fixtures using engineering requirements, engineering drawings, or with products already existing on the production floor without prints.

· Development of business cases for capital expenditures such as new tools, equipment, or infrastructure. e.g. New Finishing Booths, New Cranes based on review and analysis of future backlog or improvement methods.

· Respond and resolve issues at the root cause for running production including reviewing dimensional accuracy, quality, time, space, and tools in an already running production line .

· Developing department procedures to improve business and engineering transactions.

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience:

· 5 - 7 years of experience planning vehicle production electrical sub assembly, electrical assembly processes and mechanical assembly processes (e.g. rail, aviation, naval, heavy equipment).

· Work experience in the rail business, preferably in light rail, heavy rail, or related production, is needed.

· Working knowledge of electrical schematics, crimping and crimp contacts, wire pulling machines, wire printing machines, electrical racks and cabinet, .and complex harnessing.

· Working knowledge of paint and coating processes including the chemistry and equipment, gluing and adhesive processes including the chemistry equipment, booth and building requirements including cleanliness, temperature, humidity control, and air flow.

· Firm project management skills, including developing project plans, timelines / schedules, budgets, proposed layouts, resource requirements, calculating ROI, etc.

· Practical knowledge of the lean tool box and ability to utilize lean principles to reduce waste.

· A history of “hands-on” approach to problem solving and countermeasure implementation within own areas of responsibility.

· Demonstrated knowledge of the structure and make up of vehicles, including welding activities, fabrication and assembly, electrical subassembly, finishing and paint, and final assembly.

· Demonstrated understanding of tooling and fixtures for manufacturing and its impact to dimensional accuracy and welding quality.

· Experience using different types of bills of materials.

· A history of driving projects in a low volume high mix production environment.

· High school diploma or GED

· Required travel: 5%

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience:

· MS or advanced degree (or foreign equivalent) in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with a focus on production, manufacturing, and logistics.

· Six Sigma Master Black Belt / Six Sigma Black Belt / Lean Expert Certification

· Work experience in the rail business, preferably in light rail, heavy rail, or related production, is needed.

· Practical experience in Customer Service / Maintenance / After Market businesses and technologies within the rail industry preferred.

· Practical experience using complex Factory Planning Methods such as defining high level manufacturing plans, identifying / analyzing new technologies required, creating a value stream analysis, performing total space needs analysis, performing total capacity needs analysis, implementation planning, etc. preferred.

· Practical experience developing technology roadmaps for a range of automation options from spot welding, to robot welding, to using new material types such as SST, Aluminum, etc. preferred.

· Practical experience transferring technical knowledge, manufacturing knowledge, and proprietary technologies from lead factories to market factories preferred.

· Practical experience training others on Lean topics, facilitating Lean improvement activities, leading lean improvement activities (KAIZEN) within a welding, finishing, assembly, and electrical sub-assembly environment.

· Practical experience utilizing and implementing lean methods and tools such as 5s, 7 Types of Waste, 8-Step Practical Problem Solving (root cause analysis), Yamazumi Methods, Flow, Total Flow, Kanban, Value Stream Mapping and Design / Process Flow Diagrams, ABC-XYZ Analysis, and Lean Shop Floor Management Model.

· Practical experience coaching and training staff at all levels and functions of the organization including Lean in Production, Lean in Engineering, Lean in Quality, Lean in Procurement / Purchasing / Supply Chain and Lean at the Supplier.

· Knowledge of MRP / ERP systems is highly desired.

· Bi-lingual German and English is a plus.

· Bi-Lingual Spanish and English is a plus.
