Wind Turbine Blade Design Loads Engineer

he Boulder R&D Center for Blade Design is composed of a multi-disciplinary group of engineering experts in aerodynamics, acoustics, structures, loads, and controls, who work concurrently to design new blades and develop new technologies. This world-class center offers an open, inspiring, and diverse working environment located at the heart of downtown Boulder, Colorado, an amazing place to work and live.

As a Blade Design Loads Engineer, you will be responsible for:

·Designing new wind turbine blades

·Developing tools and workflows in support of SGRE's industry-leading multi-fidelity/multi-objective/multi-disciplinary blade design methodology

·Computational and experimental analysis of wind turbines including, controls, loads, structures, aeroelasticity, aerodynamics, and performance

·Analysis of large data sets, including reporting and presenting analyses

·Collaborating with a diverse group of engineers in a global, team-based environment

Blade Design Loads Engineers are required to possess the following:

·M.S. or Ph.D. degree in Aeronautical, Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent

·Three (3) years of experience in industry, preferably within wind turbine design

·Programming experience in MATLAB, Python, FORTRAN, C/C++, or similar

·Dynamic and aeroelastic modeling experience, preferably using wind turbine codes such as FAST, HAWC, FLEX, ADAMS, or similar

·Understanding of complex physics relating to blade dynamics, aerodynamic forces, and, aeroelasticity (i.e., resonance, flutter)

·Strong analytical skills, self-motivation, and emotional intelligence to work and thrive in a collaborative global team environment

·Proven ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written reports

·Proven track record working in teams, preferably within a large international company

·Willing and able to travel internationally

Blade Design Loads Engineers are desired to possess the following:

·Understanding of basic wind turbine control strategies

·Experience inmeasurement techniques, validation, and data analysis including time series and spectral analysis, wind and turbulence measurements, load measurement analysis, noise and power measurement analysis

·Knowledge of composite material mechanics and analysis methods

·Experience with advanced numerical methods and optimization

·Experience authoring scientific papers and technical reports
