Role Summary/Purpose

In this position you will support the production of complex (500+ parts), low-volume (100 / year), customizable equipment used in research on disease vectors, sub-cellular function and other biological fields. These products include high precision mechanisms, state-of-the-art optical transmission systems and related electrical equipment.
Essential Responsibilities

• Create, document and maintain procedures for assembling and testing precision electro-mechanical equipment. Train operators to perform these procedures. Update these procedures as the product design changes.
• Ensure customer commitments are met in a timely and cost-conscious manner.
• Determine the root cause of issues in manufacturing (parts, process, tooling etc.) and eliminate these issues in future production.
• Use Lean techniques and related tools to monitor and continuously improve quality, lead time and efficiency. This could involve changes to tooling, line layout, Bill of Material organization, manufacturing process, etc.
• Help manage changes to Bills of Material and procedures through document control.
• Participate in development of new designs and new processes to increase market share, develop new products and improve quality across the site.
• Lead productivity improvement projects to drive cost savings
Qualifications/Requirements

• B.S. in Engineering (preferably Mechanical or Biomedical)
• A minimum of 3 years experience in the design, development and implementation of manufacturing processes and equipment in a manufacturing environment, preferably low-volume, high precision electro-mechanical systems or graduate GEHC OMLP.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated expertise in designing and developing manufacturing processes, tooling, and workflow to meet daily production schedules while enhancing productivity and product quality.
• Demonstrated project management leading cross-functional teams
• Technical expertise to perform root cause analysis; eliminating problems through design analysis and component level troubleshooting.
• Ability to work well under compressed time constraints; ability to manage multiple tasks/projects at one time.
• Ability to work independently.
• Lean certification (e.g., LSS Green Belt) a plus.
• Experience with tools required for mechanical assembly and inspection.
• Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office tools (Word, Excel, etc.).
• Experience with 2D and 3D drawing and modeling software (preferably AutoCAD and AutoDesk Inventor). Experience with MRP systems a plus.
