SAS products and solutions make extensive use of Java and web technologies.  As a Technical Support Engineer, you will provide customer support for SAS Business Intelligence Platform deployment in the middle tier, focusing largely on the Java web application servers, Java memory analysis, customer-accessible Java APIs, web services, proxy servers, and advanced topics such as web authentication, SSL, and integration with third party security products.

 

Duties include providing first and second level support for external and internal customers; prioritizing, diagnosing, and managing customer reported problems including writing thorough, detailed problem descriptions; preparing and reviewing written documentation; participating in installations of SAS software which utilize third party application servers; recording and managing confirmed software bugs; providing product feedback to development and marketing; building technical relationships with appropriate groups and individuals in development and with third party Java Runtime and application server providers; reporting and tracking feature requests and problems with third party vendors; providing both formal and informal training to Technical Support staff on various application server topics.

 

Qualifications

 

Essentials

·  Bachelor's degree
·  Minimum of two years of programming experience in Java
·  Work experience with HTTP, HTML, XML, TCP/IP
·  Work experience with architecture and deployment of Java web applications
·  Experience with SAS Business Intelligence Platform or SAS Visual Analytics.

·  Excellent written and verbal communication skills
·  Ability to handle deadlines in a multi-task environment
·  Ability to resolve user questions through a combination of independent study, investigative programming and collaborative effort with team members
·  Excellent analytical and diagnostic skills
·  Ability to work with people of varied technical backgrounds 

Preferences

·  Knowledge of at least one of the following:  Oracle WebLogic Server, IBM WebSphere Application Server, JBoss Application Server, SAS Web Application Server.
·  Experience configuring and administering Apache HTTP Server, IBM HTTP Server, or Microsoft Internet Information Services
·  Familiarity with one of more the following Java technologies: memory management and garbage collection, performance analysis, J2EE, JNDI, RMI, EJB, messaging (JMS)
·  Familiarity with advanced web technologies including portlets, web authentication, DAV, SSL, web services, SOA, and SOAP
·  Experience writing and debugging script files on Windows and UNIX
·  Experience interpreting and diagnosing Java stack traces
·  Familiarity with IBM Tivoli Access Manager WebSEAL or CA e Trust SiteMinder
·  Working knowledge of Windows and UNIX operating systems (including Linux)
