PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES

We establish a Site Reliability Engineering Team in our organization that shall proactively drive continuous improvement of the whole productive landscape. With their broad technical knowledge about the infrastructure, the services and the platform they are able to solve incidents, drive and implement automation and develop central tools.

The mission of the team is to provide, protect and improve the software and systems behind productive services on SAP Cloud Platform with an ever-watchful eye on their availability, performance, and capacity.

We are looking for an experienced software engineer to join our Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team responsible for the SAP Cloud Platform Core Services.

EXPECTATIONS AND TASKS

As a Technical Support Engineer in the SAP Cloud Platform SRE team you will have the opportunity to operate, support and tackle complex problems, develop tools for thoroughly crafted, robust, well-tested cloud services built on latest open source and SAP technologies.

·  Perform in-depth troubleshooting and reading system logs to identify and solve complex support issues that were escalated by 1st level support
·  Provide timely and effective resolution to support requests based on internal and external service level agreements (SLA)
·  Provide ongoing, regular updates to customers to keep them apprised of progress toward problem resolution
·  Work with the development teams to help them understand the outputs from Post Mortems to improve their products.
·  Build infrastructure and platform monitoring by gathering system metrics and implement tools for recoveries.
·  Troubleshoot availability/performance problems and build software-based solutions to prevent recurrences.
·  Participate in the weekend on-call rotation.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

Required skills

·  BSc degree in Computer Science or related technical field
·  Strong understanding of modern cloud architectures.
·  Knowledge of Core Java, J2EE, REST and proven programing experience.
·  Experience with network architecture, e.g. TCP/IP, UDP, ICMP, etc., MAC addresses, IP packets, DNS, OSI layers, and load balancing.
·  Experience working with Unix systems from Kernel to Shell.
·  Fanaticism about automation—make the computers do the work for you.
·  Stellar communication skills – precise, based on facts.
·  Affinity to quickly analyze and solve problems in a worldwide team setup.
·  Working efficiently in emergency situations.
·  English fluent.

Preferred skills

·  Experience in working with Cloud platforms, such as Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, or Amazon Web Services
·  Or experience with container based solutions, e.g. Docker, Kubernetes
·  Further programming languages, such as Go, Python, Ruby
·  Experience in cloud deployment tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Chef, BOSH or similar.
·  Knowledge of related open source products. Own prior contributions are a plus.
·  Hands-on experience with agile software engineering, CI/CD best practices
·  Knowledge in design patterns, object oriented programming and parallel, distributed algorithms
·  Experience in building and trouble-shooting distributed systems

WORK EXPERIENCE

Minimum 2 years of experience in software development or/and production service troubleshooting that spans applications, systems and network.
