Position Summary

Develops biological/immunological methods for the analysis of viral and bacterial vaccine and therapeutic antibody candidates under pre-clinical development. Builds relationships and manages project-specific interactions with Research function across different groups.

Responsible for detailed planning and execution of laboratory experiments examining the immunological attributes of the biological samples from humans and various animal species such as mice, non-human primates, hamsters, rabbits and others. Applies hands-on expertise with the flow cytometer, cell sorter, ELISA, MSD, Luminex, ELISPOT, qPCR, cell-based assays using cell lines and primary cells and liquid handling automation. Has a strong hands-on commitment to laboratory research towards establishing best practices while promoting a safe working environment. Represents Immunology function as appropriate on various project teams. May supervise daily activities of co-op students or interns. Experience with working with small animals models is an advantage.

Also responsible for assembly of laboratory data, preliminary analysis, and appropriate documentation through electronic laboratory notebooks, written experiment records and technical reports. Contributes substantially to the authorship of research manuscripts, internal and external presentations. May contribute to the authorship of animal reports, and regulatory filings if required. Actively participates in the group meetings through presentation of his/her own data and contributing to the discussion. May participate in the transfer of bioassays into analytical development or clinical immunology groups.

Responsibilities:

·  Plan and execute experimental development biological of assays. Use scientific concepts to solve a wide range of difficult problems in imaginative and practical ways.
·  Research and develop new technologies and approaches for assessment of vaccine and therapeutic candidates to enhance understanding of their biological functions and properties.
·  Develop in vivo models in small animals, if required.
·  Prepare technical reports and protocols.
·  Execute if required a new method training to other personnel and tech transfer to other groups, provide trouble-shooting assistance.
·  Ensure accuracy and rigor of data supporting pre-clinical phase of product development and, if applicable, for mentoring interns in experiment design and data analysis and interpretation.
·  Actively participate in group and project team meetings, contributing technical expertise as needed.  Serve as a SME in project meetings or inter-intra-departmental discussions, as required.
·  Maintain an appropriate level of familiarity with the scientific literature and new technology.
·  Attend conferences, training and seminars at on-site, Sanofi Boston Hub and offsite to further your contribution to the Sanofi Pasteur goals.
·  Manage Laboratory to establish best practices, ensure safe working environment for all and monitor equipment upkeep to the extent required

Requirements:

·  BS or MS in a relevant scientific discipline (Biology, Immunology, Virology or alike)
·  Min 5 years of combined experience in academia, biotech or pharmaceutical industry
·  Hands-on technical experience with demonstrated proficiency in development of bioassays with the understanding of requirements for pharmaceutical industry
·  Exercises independent judgment in development of new methods, techniques and evaluation criteria.
·  Understanding of safe lab practices and experience in working in BSL2 environment with infectious agents requirements
·  Demonstrated strong organizational skills, willingness and ability to learn and master new technologies
·  Ability to work independently and in the team.
·  Some experience in management of subordinates is a plus.
