Overview:

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) algorithms can significantly speed up drug design and discovery and shorten drug development and identification of patients for clinical trials thereby creating better medicines that save lives. AI and Deep Analytics (AIDA) is a critical group in Digital and Data Science (DDS) department of Sanofi R&D focused on applications of machine learning (ML), Deep Learning (DL), and advanced statistics in drug design, digital pathology, Bioinformatics applied to multiomics data , digital health and wearables, and natural language processing (NLP).

Scientists in our team come from diverse backgrounds in computational sciences, life sciences, and engineering with deep expertise in AI/ML and algorithmic analysis of data.  

We are looking for a Data Scientist specializing in design of antibodies with a strong background in deep learning and NLP and familiarity with modeling protein sequences in our AI and Deep Analytics (AIDA) group at Sanofi R&D. This is in close collaboration with Large Molecule Research (LMR) department of R&D that specializes in design of therapeutic antibodies, nanobodies and protein engineering.

The candidate will directly report to the Global Head of AI and Deep Analytics at Sanofi R&D. The head of AIDA is an experienced Data Scientist with a strong background in computational biology with a PhD and Master’s degree from MIT and over 25 years of experience in machine learning theory and applications.   

The responsibilities of the data scientist in AI and Deep Analytics will include:   

·  Applying AI/ML for modeling, representation of the sequence and biological data of antibodies
·  Close interactions with other data scientists, scientists from LMR, and business stakeholders  
·  Update and report relevant results to interdisciplinary project teams and stakeholders
·  Maintain a keen awareness of recent developments in data science and machine learning applied to drug design  
·  Active engagement in both academic and startup collaborations whenever necessary

Qualifications & Requirements:

·  PhD degree in Computer Science, Biophysics, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, and Life Sciences with strong expertise in data science and machine learning  
·  2-5 year(s) of experience with a strong record of accomplishments and project experience in biological applications of AI/ML   
·  Familiarity with Deep Learning, Neural Networks, Embeddings, and Transfer Learning
·  Familiarity with Data Visualization tools and dimensionality reduction
·  Proficient in Python, SQL, and NoSQL databases
·  Familiarity with some of deep learning libraries such as Keras, TensorFlow, and PyTorch
·  The ability to work with multi-GPU machines on the cloud
·  A change agent with a combination of business, science & technology, and diplomatic skills

Preferred Qualifications:

·  Knowledge of biology of antibodies and protein engineering is a plus
·  Familiarity with basic concepts in molecular biology and biochemistry
·  Experience with representation and modeling of protein/antibody sequences is a plus
