The ASI Genomics group at Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR) in Cambridge is recruiting for an independent bench scientist to join a genomics technologies laboratory focusing on next generation sequencing. The Cambridge laboratory is a part of a global genomics team that has the laboratory of a similar size in Basel, Switzerland. Genomics global team is one of platform groups within Multi Technologies Department with a mission to impact projects across different disease areas.
The successful candidate will:
Support diverse research projects across Novartis disease areas using next generation sequencing (NGS) technologies
Run several projects simultaneously with minimal manager supervision
Build standard sequencing libraries using commercial reagents
Participate in the development of new NGS applications, technologies
Operate robotic sample preparation and sequencing instruments
Meticulously document work in an electronic lab book
Be comfortable with the daily use of a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)

Desired profile
Minimum requirements
MSc, BSc degree in Molecular Biology or equivalent professional experience
Proficiency in standard laboratory techniques such as: PCR; molecular cloning; and gene expression methodologies
Excellent laboratory and organizational skills
Advanced literacy in Excel
Proven ability to work both independently and cooperatively
Good language skills in English
Additional desirable skills:
Hands-on experience with NGS protocols, Illumina and/or PacBio technologies
Experience with single cell protocols
Experience with cell culture techniques
Experience with a LIMS
